Some ministers want their churches to stay tax free while endorsing candidates, violating a no-campaigning rule that applies to other non-profits. Their free speech argument is a lie. They can endorse candidates if they want, but they want special tax breaks while doing so, a status other non-profits only get IF they obey the law against political endorsements. Many ministers plan to campaign from the pulpit on Sunday October 7 -- openly seeking to benefit from a tax deduction while campaigning -- thinking the IRS will be too fearful of the religious right to enforce the law on the books.
