avatarEverybody get ready for tomorrow night when Dinesh D'Souza's D'Dumbass attempts to debate Daniel Dennett. Even Bobby Knight won't be able to save D'Souza from this one.

Kudos to Ayaan!

avatarLook at this world we live in.

When are we going to take back our planet from these fucking psychotic freaks? When are western leaders going to have the courage to face this disease head on?

COuntries who join the EU are required to raise their standards on human rights, equality, and freedom of expression. Its about time we extended this to countries wanting to be a part of the western world, and castigate entirely any nations who choose to live By bronze age myth-laws. We don't need Saudi oil, if we cut them off they would be nothing.

WE have the power to change this fucked state of affairs, its time the people of the secular west stood up to these ghouls and put them on notice!

avatarOff topic: I would just like say that since RichardDawkins.net got their media server, life became so much easier. I despised the YouTube links of old since I like to watch videos again at a later time, and "capturing" YouTube streams didn't always work well.

Thanks Josh, and of course Prof. Dawkins for starting this Oasis.

I understand your sentiments, but unfortunately, we still do need Saudi oil. But the more we pressure our governments to support alternative fuels, the closer we will come to being independant of oil producing countries in the middle east.

avatarI think Ayaan Hirsi Ali's most enlightening point of view deserved much more than three minutes on this topic. Hopefully she'll get more attention here in the states soon.

 avatarThose of you outside of the UK may not be aware of this story;

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=AFTUX0QEBUSSZQFIQMGCFFWAVCBQUIV0?xml=/news/2007/11/30/wsudan130.xml

Apparently, Islam is insulted because Gillian Gibbons, a British teacher working in the Sudan, named the class's teddy bear Mohammed.

Give me a break.

avatarThis was a positive little interview. Too bad it wasn't more in depth. It would have been fun if Cooper also had on a raving Islamic lunatic.

avatarThat's right, we DON'T need Saudi oil. We have a great big fireball in the sky that provides all the energy we will ever need. So long as we buy their oil we are allowing them to propagate their evil, misogynistic, and corruptible methods.

It's time religion and its lunatic adherents were finally put on notice. A tolerant world cannot coexist with these nutcases!

avatarLife in Saudi Arabia for women is devoid of meaning or hope. The problem is that many are so cut off from the world that they don't seem to know any better and accept the situation as the norm.

I was going to say that such misery is shocking even by the standards of West and North Africa's muslim states. That is definitely true and for this reaon the local Wahabbi-Sufi tensions are high on such topics as women's rights. However I can see that, from an Islamic point of view, the Wahabbis are closer to the real thing than are the progressive and open minded Sufis.

Depressing, isn't it?

I'm surprised that she didn't point out to AC that the word "Islam" doesn't literally mean "peace" as he said. If she had pointed out that it actually means "SUBMISSION" I think it would have had a nice effect as she was talking about the way women are treated in Saudi Arabia.

Yeah, i found that really strange as well. It would seem like the most obvious thing to point out. (Does the word Islam have more than one meaning?)

Islam means submission (to the will of Allah). The root of the word Islam, s-l-m, is the same root in the word salaam, meaning peace. They share the same root; the concepts of peace and submission are meant to be related.

People do commonly believe Islam means peace, so I think she was right to address that claim directly, whether or not it's completely accurate.

avatarAyaan Hirsi Ali, is the bravest woman in modern times. I only hope that her refuge here in the USA will allow her to speak more freely, for I am looking forward to her future (which i hope is a prosperious one, and and intellectually prosperous one for us)
