Document Protests Over The Golden Compass

image description

Catholics and other religious groups have organized boycotts of The Golden Compass, a film based on a children's book by an avowed atheist. What are their complaints?

* Directly competing with Margot At The Wedding, which they love

* Compasses inherently promote travel and broadened horizons

* The most sympathetic character is not killed in a prolonged and bloody torture sequence

* Though God is not referenced directly, subtitles pop up on screen to remind viewers when things symbolize God and religion

* Daniel Craig would be better served doing the Lord's work in the next Bond installment

* Breaks unspoken rule that talking CGI animals must be allegorical to Catholicism

* Would have enjoyed some broader anti-Semitic themes

avatarThe absurdity is that anything like this that comes from The Onion could just have easily come from a religious site and we wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Very amusing though, and very true.

Whats sad is you could probably say the same things about their articles on Bush, Iran, and Iraq.

Christian protests over book and movie contents are somewhat their norm.

I guess if the Christian protests over the "The Golden Compass" are as sucessful as the Christian protests were over the "Harry Potter" books and movies, "The Golden Compass" should do quite well.

I guess the Christian protests are all about the Christian love for freedom in America, or at least their limited view of it.

Another of my opinions in the sea of opinions.

Thanks,

Wayne

It amazes me how christians are always like "teach both theories" when it come to creationism or any other nonsensical idea they have regarding school curriculum.

Yet when it comes to movies and books like this they instantly want to ban/burn things.....it is awe inspiring the double standards they come up with to justify their behaviors.

In TGC peoples souls are animals. What crap! Everybody knows that souls are white balloons only visible for already departed persons! And they're checkered with black stains if you've sinned a lot!
Sjeezzzz! How stupid one can be.
