Normaly Pat stands out from other ranters on the subject as his comments are always littered with humour. Giving it to us as sharp as a knife but with that knowing nod and a wink that reminds us that we are not like this, we have freedom and the ability to laugh.

I don't feel that with this one. His comments are damn accurate, but he's lacking that humour that made him stand out from others. Now he's just ranting. Laser guided, spot on target ranting, but ranting non the less.

I first read the article when I was looking for info on 'stoning' as a friend had told me about the nine women and one man about to be stoned in Saudi as sex-criminals. Their crimes, you ask? Not sure about the man, but ALL the women were raped, some by family member. As we know, there have to be 2 or 3 female witnesses to counteract a womans testimony because they are hormonal and thus unreliable as witnesses. As some of them had been raped by family member, you can imagine that witnesses were a bit thin on the ground.

So I did a search here and found the article I provided a link to.

It made me feel ashamed to be a part of the same species......... then I realised. I'm not.

I found that I couldn't stop reading the thing from start to finish, initially because I couldn't believe these things happen in a technologically 'modern' state, then because I felt I had to learn what it is, on a practical level, that these monsters do to women.

At points I felt physically sick, at times angry about the rampant hypocrisy, but mostly sad that there's very little a lone voice in the UK can do to change any of the stuff happening in Saudi.

I suppose the main thing I came away with was a question; 'Why do these men hate women so much?' I'm afraid the answer resides in the Koran, or at least its interpretation by men.

Actually, a woman's testimony is worth 1/2 that of a man. So there must be 4 witnesses (male) or 8 (female). The reason for this is the hadith of Muhammad where he says women are created with "deficient intellect". Women aren't as smart as men therefore their testimony can only be worth half that of a man.

Islam, as a doctrine, consistently demeans, degrades, and humiliates women. They are considered property, and are not permitted to refuse sexual intercourse with their husbands, or their masters if they are concubines.

Why do Muslims "hate" women? I don't know that they do, I am sure they fear them. Women are still imprisoned for witchcraft in Saudi Arabia... people are scared of this power that women are given by Islam. Muhammad himself was placed under a spell by a woman (supposedly) who had stolen a comb from him and placed it under a palm leaf at the bottom of a well. Muhammad also says when Satan appears, he appears as a woman.
