Document 'All Terrorists are Darwinists': An Interview with Harun Yahya

by Spiegel Online

Adnan Oktar (aka Harun Yahya) is one of Turkey's major proponents of creationism and he believes Darwin's theory of evolution is the Devil's work. In a SPIEGEL ONLINE interview, he explains how he plans to defeat Darwinism.

There are over 100 million fossils that prove creationism. And these fossils have never changed. A fish has remained a fish, a shrimp has remained a shrimp. You can find these fossils all over the world. We've put them on display in Turkey too, and people have seen them with their own eyes. That is clear proof. Unlike creationism, Darwinism has no proof of evolution theory. Its adherents haven't found any fossil evidence they could use.

I wonder how many of his fossils are made of plastic, or have barbed hooks in them.

As for the last statement, I'm not sure I could stop laughing long enough to address it. This man REALLY wants to debate RD? My high school students would shred him... (well, some of them would, the others might clap for him).

And if we look at the present day, we see that all terrorists; even those who consider themselves to be Muslims; are actually Darwinists and atheists. A believer who prays regularly does not plant bombs. The only people who do that are those who are pretending to be Muslims; or who are Darwinists clearly saying that they are terrorists or Communists. So it follows that they are all Darwinists

And this fucktard wonders why people laugh at him.

Such acts are perpetrated by people who have studied abroad and have had a Darwinist education, people who have internalised Darwin and later call themselves Muslims.

That's right, a lot of Palestinian suicide bombers are educated overseas. Not.

This guy is an absolute clown.

I really hate it when major publications take their interviewee's word regarding claims like "There are over 100 million fossils that prove creationism", and "Darwinism has no proof of evolution theory", etc. without grilling them further and providing support against these claims, which just gives this idiocy apparent justification.

I want interviewers to "grow a pair" and start calling out these idiot's bullshit.

Oh, and regarding his lawsuit, I love his line: "There is no evidence against me that I consider acceptable".

I have to remember that one next time I find myself in court...

What? I thought the argument that all terrorists were Darwinists was quite innovative. Stark, staring, raving, bonkers mad, of course, but INNOVATIVE, at least! I thought he'd been rather successful at plumbing new depths of what passes for the creationist intellect.

EDIT - I see you've edited your comment, Caudimordax, so my response to it is redundant now. I'll leave it in though - just for fun :-)

avatarI think this sums up Mr Oktar's problem with evidence, logic and arguments:
"There is no evidence against me that I consider acceptable" (concerning the legal case against him)
Evidence follow from methods, the judicial courtroom method in Turkey or the scientific method. They sum up what is valuable as evidence or not. Mr Oktar says that the legal system in Turkey don't fit him and his preferences on evidence and in so many words he says the same about the evidence from the scientific method. He is clearly more of a "They say that Mohammad sad that Arc angel Gabriel sad that Allah sad method", and that method is clearly deluding everything else. He might not like the evidence but I don't think it will keep him out of jail or make his tail bone any shorter.

avatarI have no religion, and at times I wish all religions at the bottom of the sea. He is a weak ruler who needs religion to uphold his government; it is as if he would catch his people in a trap. My people are going to learn the principles of democracy, the dictates of truth and the teachings of science. Superstition must go. Let them worship as they will; every man can follow his own conscience, provided it does not interfere with sane reason or bid him against the liberty of his fellow-men.

This man is clearly certifiable, but Elli, Quetz et al, your consistently disgusting language is surely counter-productive in this supposed oasis of reason. There are a lot of people, including children, I would like to reccomend this site to, but feel these increasingly frequent sloppy, embarrassing vulgarities bring us all down and show us in a bad light. We're supposed to be the intelligent ones. Isn't there someone "up there" (not you, God) to curb such offensive talk?

Agreed, but only because they're attention whores and money-grabbing frauds, and probably not at all convinced of what they preach. The content of their verbal secretions, though, is no less weird than Oktar's. I bet if you asked them about whether bin Laden is a 'Darwinist', they would agree first and think later.

Oktar claims that in 2007 he sold eight million books in Turkey and two million abroad

I can believe that. I've seen several of his books in the prayer room at my university. Before I read The Selfish Gene, I used to regularly visit harunyahya.com. It's a pretty good website with lots of multimedia and talks about plenty of interesting things like biomimetics. I wish there were more well funded science websites with that kind of presentation.

EDIT:

Quetzalcoatl, there is a grain of truth here :
...of the 79 terrorists responsible for five of the worst anti-Western terrorist attacks in recent history - the World Trade Center bombing in 1993, the Africa embassy bombings in 1998, the September 11 attacks, the Bali nightclub bombings in 2002, and the London bombings on July 7, 2005" ... more than half of the group we assessed attended a university, making them as well educated as the average American ... we found that, of those who did attend college and/or graduate school, 48 percent attended schools in the West, and 58 percent attained scientific or technical degrees. Engineering was the most popular subject studied by the terrorists in our sample, followed by medicine.

It's going to be a worldwide celebration of the collapse of Darwinism. People are going to be amazed at how on Earth they could ever have believed in Darwinism.

Mysticism, antisemitism, and now creationism and antievolutionism, are eroding Turkey. This man is just a mirror reflection of what is happening in this dangerous, as history has shown, country. Fortunately (or not) he can be dangerous only in a country just like Turkey with no or weak scientific community that could discredit, ridicule and humiliate this XV century world view.
