Document Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity With New 'Intelligent Falling' Theory

KANSAS CITY, KS—As the debate over the teaching of evolution in public schools continues, a new controversy over the science curriculum arose Monday in this embattled Midwestern state. Scientists from the Evangelical Center For Faith-Based Reasoning are now asserting that the long-held "theory of gravity" is flawed, and they have responded to it with a new theory of Intelligent Falling.

Rev. Gabriel Burdett explains Intelligent Falling.

"Things fall not because they are acted upon by some gravitational force, but because a higher intelligence, 'God' if you will, is pushing them down," said Gabriel Burdett, who holds degrees in education, applied Scripture, and physics from Oral Roberts University.

Burdett added: "Gravity—which is taught to our children as a law—is founded on great gaps in understanding. The laws predict the mutual force between all bodies of mass, but they cannot explain that force. Isaac Newton himself said, 'I suspect that my theories may all depend upon a force for which philosophers have searched all of nature in vain.' Of course, he is alluding to a higher power."

Founded in 1987, the ECFR is the world's leading institution of evangelical physics, a branch of physics based on literal interpretation of the Bible.

According to the ECFR paper published simultaneously this week in the International Journal Of Science and the adolescent magazine God's Word For Teens!, there are many phenomena that cannot be explained by secular gravity alone, including such mysteries as how angels fly, how Jesus ascended into Heaven, and how Satan fell when cast out of Paradise.

The ECFR, in conjunction with the Christian Coalition and other Christian conservative action groups, is calling for public-school curriculums to give equal time to the Intelligent Falling theory. They insist they are not asking that the theory of gravity be banned from schools, but only that students be offered both sides of the issue "so they can make an informed decision."

"We just want the best possible education for Kansas' kids," Burdett said.

Proponents of Intelligent Falling assert that the different theories used by secular physicists to explain gravity are not internally consistent. Even critics of Intelligent Falling admit that Einstein's ideas about gravity are mathematically irreconcilable with quantum mechanics. This fact, Intelligent Falling proponents say, proves that gravity is a theory in crisis.

"Let's take a look at the evidence," said ECFR senior fellow Gregory Lunsden."In Matthew 15:14, Jesus says, 'And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.' He says nothing about some gravity making them fall—just that they will fall. Then, in Job 5:7, we read, 'But mankind is born to trouble, as surely as sparks fly upwards.' If gravity is pulling everything down, why do the sparks fly upwards with great surety? This clearly indicates that a conscious intelligence governs all falling."

Critics of Intelligent Falling point out that gravity is a provable law based on empirical observations of natural phenomena. Evangelical physicists, however, insist that there is no conflict between Newton's mathematics and Holy Scripture.

"Closed-minded gravitists cannot find a way to make Einstein's general relativity match up with the subatomic quantum world," said Dr. Ellen Carson, a leading Intelligent Falling expert known for her work with the Kansan Youth Ministry. "They've been trying to do it for the better part of a century now, and despite all their empirical observation and carefully compiled data, they still don't know how."

"Traditional scientists admit that they cannot explain how gravitation is supposed to work," Carson said. "What the gravity-agenda scientists need to realize is that 'gravity waves' and 'gravitons' are just secular words for 'God can do whatever He wants.'"

Some evangelical physicists propose that Intelligent Falling provides an elegant solution to the central problem of modern physics.

"Anti-falling physicists have been theorizing for decades about the 'electromagnetic force,' the 'weak nuclear force,' the 'strong nuclear force,' and so-called 'force of gravity,'" Burdett said. "And they tilt their findings toward trying to unite them into one force. But readers of the Bible have already known for millennia what this one, unified force is: His name is Jesus."

Wow - even when it is clearly posted at the top that this is a joke, the atheist fundies still manage to write in and express outrage at how stupid the Christian fundies are! The irony is delicious. "Had me fooled" - I guess it does not take much to fool some atheists...And this is meant to be an oasis of clear thinking???

Wow, it's didn't take a Christian "fundie" long to jump on an Atheist making a little mistake.

And FYI, considering what else Religious "fundies" come up with, this one isn't as much of a stretch as you might like to believe.

avatarDavid Robertson, I was of course referring to the re-Discovery site fooling me into thinking it was a real fundie site. The "intelligent falling" joke wouldn't fool a wombat.

So you admit the "Intelligent Falling" theory is "stupid" then? Are you admitting that the idea that God would intervene in this manner is a "stupid" idea?

If you say that the God intervention theory isn't "stupid", then your statement that "it does not take much to fool some atheists" is not valid (if it was even slightly credible it would be reasonable for people to be fooled).

If you say that the God intervention theory is "stupid", then it must be equally "stupid" to just assume an intelligent force is at work elsewhere in nature.

Just so you know, those of us who found the item in a news reader did not see the "this is a joke" line in the news reader nor even the fact it was from the onion, just the title and a part of the main body appeared.

However, even if some were "fooled" it's quite a reasonable thing to expect from the Christian right to do a thing such as this.

avatarLooks like David Robertson is back to his moronic best. Got anything constructive to say? No? didn't think so. Anything intelligent to say? No???? To be honest, christian fundies are such a wacked out bunch of space cadets that you can be forgiven for thinking this were real.
Lets see, atheists dont believe in god because there is no evidence. Christians believe in god because some self contradictory and historically inaccurate book written by a culture who believed the sun (created after the earth) orbited a flat 6000 years old earth that has water above it says so. Is this the level of intelligence you aspire to David? Why dont you just try and find some real evidence for you delusion (sorry faith) instead pf acting like a stupid little child trying to win a point by insulting atheists. What would jesus do david? (If he wasn't a 2000 year old maggot farm that is) Grow up and stop acting like an idiot (presuming it isn't an act)
Atheist love
Billy
PS, did I tell you about the christian biochemist I know who believes men have a rib missing because of one of the contradictory creation myths found in the bible? Man you are an intelligent lot, as evidenced from your thread and church site. Is thee anything humane we can do for these sorry people?

"The "intelligent falling" joke wouldn't fool a wombat."

Yep - D - you got it right. Which is why the first two comments on this site give Wombats a bad name!

Poolie "I cant believe the stupidity of theses people, espicially the ones wasting their life in attempt to explain it. So instead on working on fixing the accepted theory of gravity they just come up with one to explain "mysteries as how angels fly, how Jesus ascended into Heaven, and how Satan fell when cast out of Paradise". Then if god controls gravity why wont he let me fly then !!! God damn it !!" and don't forget yxalag - "I am hardly suprised, this is typical of wild religious claims. They are all just weak theories attempting to explain a pseudoscience. I am sure that there are Christians that seriously believe that every scientific theory is really 'Intelligent'."

And you guys have the nerve to mock Christian fundies for being thick!

David A Robertson seems to be having quite a good time over a couple of posters that might have thought the parody was real. To that I will say, had I not seen the "it's a joke" disclaimer and after living in the Bible belt for 45 years(currently about 20 miles from Kent Hovind's dinosaur museum) I wouldn't have any trouble believing it to be true. I have some neighbors who would have been quoting scripture to back it up. If you don't think Christian fundies are thick, I suggest you check out the religion forums on bellsouth.net if you can keep from puking!

Really David, is that any christ like way to behave by comparing a person that jesus loved so much to die for as something less than the image of god? I suggest that you apologise and show some of that christian love you are commanded to do. After all, getting peoples backs up is not doing the message of your delusion any good now is it?

I remember you taking exception to someone on your troll thread who said that you bullied people, but that insulting comment is exactly what a bully would do. I think your congregation needs a real moral example like Richard Dawkins. (shame ghandi is unavailable)

The more of your posts I read the more convinced i am that you are a strategically shaved baboon that someone has placed in a suit that is just randomly hitting the key board. Either that or you have just been down the idiot shop and stuffed your trolley with goodies off the shelf. Youre bizzare behaviour is perfectly explained in a Darwinian model

Quite a few devout Christians swallowed the "Hole to Hell" story, hook line and sinker!
Geologists working somewhere in remote Siberia had drilled a hole some 14.4 kilometers deep (about 9 miles) when the drill bit suddenly began to rotate wildly. A Mr. Azzacov (identified as the project's manager) was quoted as saying they decided that the center of the earth was hollow.
Supposedly, the geologists measured temperatures of over 2,000 degrees in the deep hole. They lowered super sensitive microphones to the bottom of the well, and to their astonishment they heard the sounds of thousands, perhaps millions, of suffering souls screaming.
