About:
The need for critical thinking skills and a humanistic outlook in our world is great. This is no less true in the Black community than in others. Many African Americans have been engulfed by religious irrationality, conned by self—serving "faith healers", and swayed by dogmatic revisionist historians. Many others, however, have escaped the oppression of such delusions, and live happy and upstanding lives free of superstition. African Americans for Humanism (AAH) exists to bring these secular humanists together, to provide a forum for communication, and to facilitate coordinated action. In an irrational world, those who stand for reason must stand together.

Apostates of Islam

Weblink: http://www.apostatesofislam.com/index.htm

About:
Who we are: We are ex—Muslims. Some of us were born and raised in Islam and some of us had converted to Islam at some moment in our lives. We were taught never to question the truth of Islam and to believe in Allah and his messenger with blind faith. We were told that Allah would forgive all sins but the sin of disbelief (Quran 4:48 and 4:116). But we committed the ultimate sin of thinking and questioned the belief that was imposed on us and we came to realize that far from being a religion of truth, Islam is a hoax, it is hallucination of a sick mind and nothing but lies and deceits.

About:
Atheist Alliance International (AAI) is an organization of independent religion—free groups and individuals in the United States and around the world. Our primary goals are to help democratic, atheistic societies become established and grow and to work in coalition with like—minded groups to advance rational thinking through educational processes. Virtually all income goes to these causes. We have little paid staff. Our members make all the decisions and do almost all of the work.

The Alliance sponsors annual conventions, publishes Secular Nation magazine, a quarterly magazine of interest to atheists, and The Freethought Directory, an attempt to list all freethought organizations in the world, and the Journal of Higher Criticism, a respected scholarly publication of Biblical study. We sponsor Objectivity, Accuracy, and Balance in Teaching About Religion (OABITAR), a resource for teachers. We maintain a web site that hosts member societies' web sites free of charge.

Applications for Alliance membership from democratic local, regional, or international atheist organizations are always welcome. Member societies pay no dues but contribute to the grassroots organizing work of Atheist Alliance. Each member society has its own representative on the AAI board.

Individual members are also welcome. They do pay dues
(See http://www.atheistalliance.org/aai/membership.html, under the Individual Memberships section) and receive Secular Nation as a benefit of membership. They also have a representative on
the AAI board, with the representative being selected at an individual members' group meeting during the annual AAI convention. The Individual Members Group maintains contact through an online chat group and Secular Nation magazine.

An entirely internet—based connection to AAI for individuals is also available through the Atheist Internet Outreach member society. Its role is to use online services to connect isolated atheists with atheist and freethought issues, and to support the programs, policies and activities of the Alliance.

About:
The Atheist Foundation of Australia recognises scientific method as the only rational means toward understanding reality. To question and critically examine all ideas, testing them in the light of facts, leads to the discovery of truth.

As there is no scientific evidence for supernatural phenomena, atheists reject belief in 'God', gods and other supernatural beings. The universe, the world in which we live, and the evolution of life, are entirely natural occurrences.

No personality or mind can exist without the process of living matter to sustain it. We have only one life — here and now. All that remains after a person dies is the memory of their life and deeds in the minds of those who live.

Atheists reject superstition and prejudice along with the irrational fears they cause. We recognise the complexity and interdependence of life on this planet. As rational and ethical beings we accept the challenge of making a creative and responsible contribution to life.

About:
ABOUT:
Atheists For Human Rights was founded in February of 2002 by atheists with a 15-year
history of activism and leadership in the freethought community, locally and nationally.
Although we are located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, we are a semi-national organization with
a third of our membership from distant parts of the state and from other states. Our goal
is to make atheism publicly visible. Our innovative Moral High Ground fund remains the
freethought community's most positive response to the religious right's inhumane agenda.
We provide real help - financial help - to members of those groups most fiercely attacked
by the religious right: gays and lesbians, poor women in need of abortions, the
terminally ill who desperately want help to die peacefully, and stem cell research
programs. We have our own Hub of Atheism that ensures a reliable, available and free
meeting space.

About:
Currently the naturalistic worldview is insufficiently expressed within most cultures, even politically/socially repressed. To be a Bright (someone who fits the definition and registers on this Web site) is to participate in a movement to address the situation. There is a great diversity of persons who have a naturalistic worldview. Some are members of existing organizations that foster a supernatural—free perspective. Far more individuals are not associated with any formal group or label. Under the broad umbrella of the naturalistic worldview, the constituency of Brights can undertake social and civic actions designed to influence a society otherwise permeated with supernaturalism. The movement's three major aims are: A. Promote the civic understanding and acknowledgment of the naturalistic worldview, which is free of supernatural and mystical elements. B.Gain public recognition that persons who hold such a worldview can bring principled actions to bear on matters of civic importance. C.Educate society toward accepting the full and equitable civic participation of all such individuals.

About:
The BHA is the largest organisation in the UK supporting and representing the non—religious and campaigning for a secular society.

We help humanists and other non—religious people to gain confidence in their beliefs and build a foundation from which to live their lives with integrity, supporting networks for families, teachers and others to share ideas and experience and provide mutual support.

We work for an open and inclusive society with freedom of belief and speech, and for an end to the privileged position of religion - and Christianity in particular - in law, education, broadcasting and wherever else it occurs.
We campaign for the inclusion of humanism within the school curriculum, for inclusive schools where children with parents of all faiths and none learn to understand and respect each other, instead of being segregated in the growing number of faith and sectarian schools, and for the abolition of school worship.

We are also renowned for the provision of humanist funerals, weddings, baby-namings and other non-religious ceremonies which meet a very real need in the community.

About:
Manifesto of the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain

We, non-believers, atheists, and ex-Muslims, are establishing or joining the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain to insist that no one be pigeonholed as Muslims with culturally relative rights nor deemed to be represented by regressive Islamic organisations and 'Muslim community leaders'.

Those of us who have come forward with our names and photographs represent countless others who are unable or unwilling to do so because of the threats faced by those considered 'apostates' - punishable by death in countries under Islamic law.

By doing so, we are breaking the taboo that comes with renouncing Islam but also taking a stand for reason, universal rights and values, and secularism.

Whilst religion or the lack thereof is a private affair, the increasing intervention of and devastation caused by religion and particularly Islam in contemporary society has necessitated our public renunciation and declaration. We represent a majority in Europe and a vast secular and humanist protest movement in countries like Iran.

Taking the lead from the Central Council of Ex-Muslims in Germany, we demand:

1. Universal rights and equal citizenship for all. We are opposed to cultural relativism and the tolerance of inhuman beliefs, discrimination and abuse in the name of respecting religion or culture.
2. Freedom to criticise religion. Prohibition of restrictions on unconditional freedom of criticism and expression using so-called religious 'sanctities'.
3. Freedom of religion and atheism.
4. Separation of religion from the state and legal and educational system.
5. Prohibition of religious customs, rules, ceremonies or activities that are incompatible with or infringe people's rights and freedoms.
6. Abolition of all restrictive and repressive cultural and religious customs which hinder and contradict woman's independence, free will and equality. Prohibition of segregation of sexes.
7. Prohibition of interference by any authority, family members or relatives, or official authorities in the private lives of women and men and their personal, emotional and sexual relationships and sexuality.
8. Protection of children from manipulation and abuse by religion and religious institutions.
9. Prohibition of any kind of financial, material or moral support by the state or state institutions to religion and religious activities and institutions.
10. Prohibition of all forms of religious intimidation and threats.

Atheism or barbarism

Atheistic International Federation

Religion affirmations cannot be object of theoretical knowledge. The feeling of man of the awareness of his constant blame and his aspiration of happiness produces in him the faith in a god that punishes and loves; but there are no evidences of this faith truthfulness. All religions dogmas result, under this concept, as subjective and arbitrary.

The reason and historical experience demonstrate that religious prejudice become into a serious obstacle for the full freedom development and individuals' happiness. Spokesmen of irrationality demand faith and submission fearing of a future eschatological catastrophe, working with threats of hellish tortures and promises of paradisiacal enjoyments.

Conditioned by its hypnotic power, a big part of human kind remain chained to this fiction, being at the same time accomplice and victim of a massive fraud represented by religions. The liberation of this spiritual chains has a decisive meaning in society development and in the liberation process of the human being. Therefore, the combat against religion cannot be limited only to the political or economical scope. It must include, inevitably, as a base of a new view of the world and a new ethical attitude, guided against the religious totalitarian ideology. In front of the barbarism represented by dogmatisms, we propose a return to reason, a new vision of reality and a will to release individuals of fables derived from magical thought.

Atheistic thought development has been historically tortuous and contradictory. But the manifestations of this development have been links towards a consequent atheism. In front of reason judgment, religion in whole results definitely condemned. Nevertheless, the organized religious superstition still has narrow alliances with political and economical power, with moral and culture. Such superstition allows and supports the influence that irrationality exercises over our age, with a form of fundamentalisms.

Some opposition forms against the established conditions are not effective but through a collectivization of efforts. We intend to integrate a global atheistic movement endowed with concrete objectives and with planned public activities. We think that atheism never has been awarded with the importance that it has as ground of scientific, politic and philosophical bases of Occident. We think that it is necessary to go deep into the historical, sociological, psychological and philosophical grounds of atheism, to section the roots of our inherited Judeo Christian moral and to critically analyze the role that religions has exercised and exercise over social behavior.

We are convinced about the atheism role as catalyst of transformer forces. The Atheistic International Federation is integrated by men and women that are sure of the necessity to disregard of a god idea, to combat the fatal mistake of this believe and to progressively delimit the influence of religions and their kindred ideologies in our respective societies. Through it will be possible to canalize in a positive manner our analysis and response abilities before the threat represented by religiosity and by the idealist prejudice for the full development of civil rights and liberties in the political system where we live. It is a necessary step in the formation of a more critical, aware, free and autonomous society, able to confront collective and coherently the pressure exercised by religious obscurantism.

Free thought is never stopped before the fetishism. This is the moment to converge in an international atheistic association, concreted in a clear and effective conspiracy against all kind of irrationalism.

The Giordano Bruno Foundation, to which numerous renowned scientists,

for the humanist goal of a "peaceful and equal co-existence of people in the
here and now". As a "think tank of Enlightenment" the foundation has set its
aim at developing the foundations of a naturalistic world-view as well as a
secular, evolutionary-humanistic ethics and politics and sustainably
bringing them into social debates. The reactions to the foundation from the
populace have been promising. Apparently more and more people recognised
today that we cannot continue living as we have done, that there have to be
satisfying answers beyond fundamentalism and arbitrariness to the
existential problems of being human in general and to the social dissonances
in global society in particular.

About:
Godless Americans PAC Chooses Winners In 2006

The Democrats have taken the House of Representatives and the majority of Godless Americans Political Action Committee endorsements won election. We endorsed Jim McDermott (WA-7), Pete Stark (CA-13), and Rush Holt (NJ-12) all won their elections, as well as Sen. Feinstein in California.

The best news of course is the loss of Sen. Rick Santorum, but I am even more enthralled over the loss of John Hostettler (IN-8). He is the Congressman who introduced H.R. 2679, Public Expression of Religion Act that passed the House. A very good night all around.

Now the bad news: The successful passage of anti-gay-marriage laws in seven out of eights states yesterday. The bans passed in Idaho, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado and South Dakota. It narrowly lost in Arizona.

Today we have 27 states, or just over half the nation that decided bronze-age laws are still valid for today's world. Even though 280 clergy in Virginia publicly came out opposed to the state's constitutional amendment, it was, by and large, the Catholics and Evangelicals who successfully passed this measure. So, those 27 states can now proclaim that Christianity is the officially established religion in those states and that religion stands firmly committed to the principles of bigotry, hatred, and intolerance.

"[Tolerance is a] kind of watchword of those who reject the concept of right and wrong. It's a kind of desensitization to evil of all varieties. Everything has become acceptable to those who are tolerant." – James Dobson, Focus On The Family radio broadcast, Nov. 4, 1996

. Ethically grounded
. Wise and well informed
. Skillfully strategic in addressing institutional dynamics
. Committed to meeting the real needs of real people
. Globally responsible and personally sustainable
.
We strive to prepare humanist leaders to be:
. self-differentiated individuals who are models of the humanist perspective,
. activists in their communities who know how to get things done,
. advocates who are persuasive articulators of the humanist world view in the public sphere,
. innovative thinkers who keep our movement alive with their provocative insights and writings,
. experts who have the skills to help organizations function and help people achieve important goals
.
The Institute is an independent graduate level program that works in cooperation with existing humanist organizations. It provides a unique opportunity to bring together a diverse faculty and student body of those who take a nontheistic and naturalistic approach to humanism, whether interpreted in secular, religious, or life-stance terms.
The Institute works with individuals who are in or aspiring to roles of:
. community/congregation/chapter-based leadership
. regional and national organizational leadership
. specialized leadership roles as spokespersons, educators, and counselors
. leadership within the various serving professions.

Through its faculty, alumni/ae, and student body, the Institute also develops specialized programs for exploring humanist ideas and practices. Research and publications are an essential element of the Institute's program, including the annual Faculty Colloquium, the journal Humanism Today, and periodic weekend conferences and workshops.

About:
We want a society in which all are free to practise their faith, change it or not have one, according to their conscience. Our belief or lack of it should neither advantage or disadvantage. Religion should be a matter of private conscience, for the home and place of worship; it must not have privileged input into the political arena where history shows it to bring conflict and injustice. The National Secular Society is the leading pressure group defending the rights of non—believers from the demands of religious power—seekers. We campaign on a wide range of issues, including religious influence in the government, the disestablishment of the Church of England, the removal of the Bench of Bishops from the House of Lords and for conversion of religious schools (paid for by the taxpayer) to community schools, open to all.

Solidarity for Freedom of Conscience

Bucharest ,
Romania

Weblink: http://www.humanism.ro
Email:
remuscernea@gmail.com
Phone:
(004)-0727-583-594

About:
About:
The association Solidarity for Freedom of Conscience has been established in order to draw attention to discrimination based on faith and religion and to fight this very resilient phenomenon in today's Romania. Over time, Romanian society and authorities have acknowledged discrimination targeting other types of groups and have taken steps to eliminate it. Nevertheless, religious discrimination has reached alarming proportions, while remaining a largely unacknowledged occurrence, frequently misunderstood by the public opinion. The association's main priorities include the adoption of an adequate legal framework guaranteeing religious freedom and the clarification of the current state of confusion, enhanced by the long tradition of state authoritarianism in this country.

The Solidarity for Freedom of Conscience believes that the violation of the secular character of the state is instrumental in the perpetuation of the current crisis of freedom of conscience. Although implicit in constitutional provisions and in the values of the international system of which Romania aims to be a part, the secular character of the state is in practice violated on a regular basis. The interference of religious institutions in the affairs of the state has become an established fact of public life - substantial assets are transferred to religious institutions, clerics are involved in the activities of public authorities, religious symbols are associated to the symbols of the state, while cultural policies and the existing practices in religious education undermine the principles of secularism.

The Solidarity for Freedom of Conscience militates for the affirmation of the secular character of the state as a fundamental value of modernity and a foundational principle of European culture. The association will encourage legislative and political measures furthering the goal of a secular society. The Solidarity for Freedom of Conscience promotes the values of rationality, openness, and free inquiry, which we consider to be indispensable ingredients in the individuals' ability to achieve their full humanity.

The association emphasizes that freedom of conscience means liberty to hold and enjoy together with others a religious faith, as well as the freedom not to share in any religion or religious association. The extraordinary pressures put by leaders of religious groups on public life in Romania, as well as the increasingly manifest religious attitudes expressed within public institutions, constitute in our opinion a formidable obstacle to the country's modernization. While fully respecting religious conscience and encouraging its free manifestation, the Solidarity for Freedom of Conscience will, in view of the current social context, promote the values of secular humanism.

About:
Vantrú promotes skepticism and fights the spread of faith and pseudo science
in society at large. For this purpose Vantrú runs an active web site, on
which new material is published every day, focusing on atheism and current
events, as well as addressing more classical issues of faith and non-belief.

Vantrú was founded in august 2003, when a group of non-believers started the
web site vantru.net. Having in common the passion for debating matters of
religion and superstition, they set out to create a web based community for
Icelandic atheists, which could serve as a dedicated venue for candid
discussions on faith and related issues.

The presence of Vantrú has become substantial in Icelandic society, both in
and out of cyberspace. Members meet regularly, often over dinner or brunch,
and take part in various activism, such as debating, holding lectures and
staging protests.
