I have been thinking that it might be good fun to try to campaign for a day to be recognised as 'Follow the Bible Literally Day'.

I think it would be a great way of showing the Bible up as the monstrous source for morality it really is.
The funny thing to me would be that christians couldn't really raise a strong objection to it!

I think the whole endeavour, whether it came to fruition or not, would raise a lot of people's consciousness about what annoys me the most in the religious argument against atheism - the idea that we couldn't possibly be moral without god or the Bible.

Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and others assert that, given most Christians have decided to ignore 90% of the morality offered by the Bible anyway, we use our own judgement to decide what is moral and what is not. This point seems not to be grasped by all religious people and, hopefully, a day such as the one proposed would make them think twice about the idea that the Bible offers the only path to morality we have.

I would love to hear people's comments on this topic.
