Many of you may already be familiar with Usama Hasan, a UK Imam who received quite a negative response for suggesting to a Muslim audience that humans share a common ancestor with modern apes.

Seemingly undeterred he is participating in a discussion Have Muslims misunderstood evolution? To be held on Jan 5th in London.  I expect that the vagueness of the Quran will make it possible for him to argue that while the book does not describe evolution it also does not outright contradict it either.  To achieve this he would have to dismiss ahadith (stories of Muhammad's life) which is where the most ridiculously silly stories of Islam arise from, and from where most of the inhumane aspects of Shariah based law derives, so influencing people towards Quran-only (if not apostasy) is a great cause.

If you are interested in the subject but unable to attend the event in London you will be able to see Mr Hasan discussing the subject on The Jinn and tonic show on the 13th of January.
