Atheism in Alabama
Dear Richard Dawkins,
I am currently reading The God Delusion and am only about half way through; I can't wait to finish.
A few months ago, I had the nerve to tell my devout, southern Baptist mother that I didn't believe in God. She yelled, she screamed, she said the meanest things to me. I'm pretty sure she wanted to hit me.
She calmed and accepted my unnamed atheism. Now I only have to go to our church every other week (I used to have to attend every week), and I have a largely difficult time whenever I go.
I feel such a pressure whenever I go to "accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior!", and I don't know many other atheists in my dominantly Christian town. I had many doubts about my atheism until I started reading your book.
Though about an eighth of what you say, I don't understand (I am only 15). But what I do understand, makes a lot more sense than all of the religious bull shit that is constantly shoved down my throat. Your book is so well written and is full of things that have opened my eyes and changed my views.
I intend on reading more of your books in the near future.
Now I feel like a confident convert.
