Dear Richard Dawkins,
Thank you for all your efforts in your striving to bring reason to the world. Your books and work with the BBC help bring the atheist viewpoints to the mainstream, which is so crucial in a world filled with religious media and powerful religious dissemination amongst all media formats. Today, I was even awoken by a religious organization at 8:30am on a Saturday morning trying to give me Bibles. If religion made any sense, that would be a sin itself.
As a child, I was the only atheist in my elementary school and, until I met a wonderful friend, the only in high school that I knew of. Thankfully, I am now in a university where I have met other godless heathens such as myself and live in the most godless part of the country. Due to being surrounded by religion from ages 7 while being an atheist, much of what you write hits home to me. Not only was your book "The God Delusion" and your series "The Genius of Charles Darwin" affirmations of long-held beliefs, but I learned a great deal more about evolutionary biology. In particular, the parts I had been, and no longer am, thanks to you, ignorant on were how evolution could have shaped human behavior.
I sincerely hope that you continue your work in the exhausting field of providing a rational alternative to religion for the masses still clinging to a magical sky wizard. I hope that letters such as mine, as well as the plethora already written, inspire you, as your work does us, to soldier on in the face of mounting religious resistance to reason.
So, in short, thank you for teaching me and inspiring me,
North Vancouver, Canada
