I recently abandoned my religion for the simple reasons that it just wasn't making sense, and my prayers were not being answered. Even though I no longer went to church, I still had lingering doubt. I wasn't sure I was doing the right thing. Some friends on twitter told me to check out Richard Dawkins, so I started watching just about every youtube video I could find of him. He is a genius! (He's quite handsome too. I have a bit of a crush.) What he has taught me about evolution and religion has been an eye-opener to say the least. When in religion, we are so self-centered and ignorant; some might think planet Earth adapted to us, and the Earth is the way it is to keep us alive and comfortable, while some higher power is seeing to it all. What I learned from evolution and listening to Dr. Dawkins speak is that we, in fact, adapted to Earth and that we are only alive today in the form that we are because of the particular environment we found ourselves in. It's clear that his goal is not to be mean-spirited or cause harm, but to educate and share the truth about what science has found and what it means for religion. Atheists are not evil, hurtful people that my former religion has made me imagine them to be. There are atheists like Richard Dawkins that are wonderful, intelligent people making the world a better place.
