Dear Richard Dawkins
First, I have always loved science, but you have opened a whole new world to me in getting to know evolutionary science. Your books, articles, and other contributions to the subject have inspired a passion within me to learn more about it. So, thank you Mr. Richard Dawkins for your gift of communicating with the world in such an eloquent manner.
Second, I will not call myself a convert, but I am a skeptic of anything pertaining to the existence of the super natural. I stopped believing in any god just by reading the bible. I started this journey as a teenager, and it took on a life of it's own. History was my greatest teacher. I have not stopped learning new things. I came to my own conclusion that any god is a man made invention. We are such a conceited species that loves to repeat history without learning from it.
It was especially hard for me during my time in the US Military from 1993 to 2001. It started with Basic Training as I watched all of my fellow soldiers getting their Sundays off to go to church while the rest of us were stuck back in the barracks cleaning all day. I felt like I was betraying myself the few times I attended church on purpose just to get a break. I continued to see prejudice in the Military ranks against all troops who were without religion and not Christian. I am speaking on behalf of a few friends of mine who were Jewish, Muslim, or Buddhist just to name a few.
I do not feel so alone now after so many people like you started to speak out against prejudice and delusional thinking. I have always had a hard time keeping my mouth shut when I see someone or a group being bullied by the ignorant. If the world would spend more time thinking instead of praying, the Earth would be a much better place to live.
