I am a student at the University of Edinburgh studying Biological Science. I grew up almost in the absence of religion but not totally, my family would still attend christenings and would tolerate it. I always had a clear view in my mind that it was not real yet because it was woven into our society it was okay. I told myself that everyone has a right to their views and that religion could be a force for good in the world. In recent times however, it became so apparent that religion is not only utterly and completely absurd but it is responsible for so much death across human history.
I initially heard your name in a lecture this year and in a popular science book, intrigued by memetics I sought out more and learned of your work in atheism. I watched many videos and each and every point stuck a chord with me. We should not continue to tolerate religion. Religions to me are cults that pre-date reason. We laugh at the idea of a flying spaghetti monster now but a notion much like that was put forward many years ago and was universally accepted and integrated into society. You are an ambassador to me and many like me and I'd like to thank you not only for taking a stand against religion but for also putting science in it's rightful place.
