I am a high school student at an advanced high school program for biology, focusing on the molecular side of things, but biology nonetheless. Despite having a firm rooting in evolution and great professors, some (actually all) of my most intelligent peers contine to reject evolution as a sufficient explanation for the origins of complexity out of simplicity on the ground that it contradicts their holy book. They acknowledge that it makes complete sense and is plausible, but it contradicts an ancient text and therefore is false regardless of the massive scientific evidence. They can argue against creationism brilliantly if they have to on an exam, yet they are blinded by a book to denounce the entire scientific method. In contrast to some of your experiences, I've found that education cannot counter ignorance in the case of some incredibly intelligent people. Should one just give up on these kinds of people?
