I was raised by a very Catholic family. To keep it simple; witnessing their struggles with drinking and drug addiction while at the same time being forced to attend a private religious school as well as church services with my family caused me to doubt the entire thing.
But it was the books I started reading that actually gave me words for what I already was starting to feel - "The God Delusion" gave me those words. Also, "The God Delusion" got me into reading works by Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens and many other artists - and it reignited a love of science that faded soon after leaving public school and my first "earth sciences" class and moving to a private school. Soon I discovered many other voices that shaped me - Penn & Teller's "Bullshit" series, countless writers, movies, etc.
These days, I am a middle aged man - and what you and others did with your writing helped me actually develop critical thinking, a love of science and a sense of total wonder at this strange universe we happen to live in.
Thank you, Richard.
