TORONTO – Gus Holwerda’s “The Unbelievers” (pictured), following scientists Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss’ crusade to trumpet the importance of science, and A.J. Schnack’s “Caucus,” a behind-the-scenes look at Republican hopefuls at the 2012 Iowa caucus, will world preem at the Hot Docs festival.

Director of programming Charlotte Cook unveiled 28 features in the Special Presentations program of Toronto’s international documentary fest, mart and confab on Wednesday.

Toronto helmer Barry Avrich’s “Prepare for the Worst,” a biodoc on comedian David Steinberg, will also world preem at Hot Docs, which runs April 25 to May 5.

U.S. titles receiving international preems include Martha Shane and Lana Wilson’s “After Tiller,” Freida Mock’s “Anita,” Dawn Porter’s “Gideon’s Army,” Jason Osder’s “Let the Fire Burn,” Greg Camalier’s “Muscle Shoals,” and Jeff Reichert and Farihah Zaman’s “Remote Area Medical.”

Recent award-winners from the fest circuit include Sundance docs “Blood Brother,” “Pussy Riot — A Punk Prayer,” “The Machine Which Makes Everything Disappear” and “Who Is Dayani Cristal?” plus IDFA opener “Wrong Time Wrong Place.”

Hot Docs is pleased to announce 28 documentary features that will be a part of this year’s Special Presentations program, a high-profile collection of world and international premieres, award-winners from the recent international festival circuit, and works by master filmmakers, and featuring some star subjects. These films will screen as part of the 2013 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, running April 25 to May 5.

The full selection of films to screen at Hot Docs 2013 will be announced on March 19, including the 2013 opening night film.
