Best wishes George for a successful op and a speedy recovery! And thankyou for your actions then and your support of RDFRS now. You are truly the best of British!

As a note of encouragement, my father (who was RAF in WWII) is 88 this year and has a pacemaker and an artificial hip and still goes gallivanting around in France with a caravan twice a year. I'm sure the senior service can aspire to no less!

"Might I suggest how jealous those of us who do not live in the U.K. are at this discussion. Here is disagreement, deep and profound, and yet nobody has issued threats, conjured tortured endings for those who disagree nor, (I hope) do they seem bent on running out and beating someone over the head for thinking differently. No one is in danger here. No one risks imprisonment, death, mutilation, humiliation, shame, shunning, etc. The very possibility of this discussion, which is ultimately, material proof of the possibility, validity, rationality of doubt is itself something to marvel at. If Richard Dawkins has allowed us all to see that we can disagree on this, and lo, the world hasn't exploded yet, then we can probably manage to disagree quite calmly about everything else. Further, if Richard Dawkins is the means by which those who have been feeling abandoned in the solitude of their doubts gain courage and or even curiosity, then viva Dawkins."
Hakima, New York,
This was the comment that stood out for me. I think it makes an excellent point without seeming to do so. I was ploughing through the comments feeling the familiar back and forth rhythm of a tennis match when this one pulled me up short. I can only hope that it stood out as much for others reading the article and that they actually took a moment to think about what it means.

I love that they actually said this to reporters with straight faces. Most of the UK is going to go 'WTF?' The Weather is the Met Office's area of expertise (or not, as the odd hurricane may bear witness). This is not doing CofE credibility any good at all.

Dawkins shoots ... he scores!
One day soon, I hope to be able to write:
'They think it's all over...' *g*
