1. How to reconcile Richard Dawkins?
Comment #172199 by FoundLink on April 29, 2008 at 10:35 am
From the first couple of sentences this writer misrepresents Prof. Dawkins by stating that he (Dawkins) believes religious instruction of children to be abuse. Anyone who has ever listened to or read the words of the Professor knows that it is the labeling of children that he objects to. The opposite is true about religious instruction as long as it is "comparative".

Re: Comment #10 Obscured by Clouds
Sadly, D'Souza's book is #33 on the NY Times bestseller list. I am not sure how many he has sold so far, but #33 is still pretty high up there. He is just a few places below the lovely(adam's apple and all) Ann Coulter. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/09/books/bestseller/1209besthardnonfiction.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Oh, Boy! This should be a "smack down"! Dennett should do an even better job than Hitchens did and Hitchens debated this knucklehead quite well. Thanks
for the links.

Thank you, Crono454. I went ahead and installed Real Player because I wanted to see this clip. What an invasive program. I will now dump it and use the codec you suggested. Thanks again

Does anyone know of a link that does not use Real Player? Windows media or Quicktime would be better.
6. Christopher Hitchens and Al Sharpton
Comment #53409 by FoundLink on July 1, 2007 at 10:16 am
Once again Hitchens misstates that all evil things done in the name of god are done so exclusively because of god. This is simply not the case. There are many reasons horrible, reprehensible acts are committed by the religious and often god is merely a justification. The war in Iraq for example was motivated by greed and endorsed (according to the idiot in the Whitehouse) by god. Anyone who is able to follow the money being changed hands in this conflict can see this. Even the crusades were about power, land, and riches for the church, which Dawkins has pointed out on many occasions.
I think Mr. Hitchens best serves himself and those of like minds by sticking to what he does best; writing. Even on the softest pitches given him, he is unable to fully connect with the ball. Asked about innate morality, he can/does not speak to how advantageous an evolutionary trait like that could be to our species.
I realize he is not Richard Dawkins or in the matter of the cosmos, say Stephen Hawking, but he could be a lot more polished on imparting scientific knowledge in his arguments. Knowledge I have no doubt he is abreast of. Perhaps too many scotches (or what ever he drinks)the night before handicapped his performance. I certainly hope he has some good excuse for not giving Al Sharpton a one-sided intellectual smack down.

It is sad that in America we are lacking a program on free television like this one. The so called journalists on the major networks are little more that corporate lackeys. They would never allow someone like Hitchens or Dawkins to speak without an opposing pundit piping in mid-sentence. Canada is looking better and better all the time as an escape from this backward country of mine. Too bad it is so damn cold there! Hmmmm, long johns and parkas...could work.

Don't you wish one of these fundies like Pat Robertson would debate Hitchens? I wish all fundamentalists agreed with English's statement about christians hearing the other side. Would have really liked to have seen Falwell debate Hitchens or better yet Dawkins. Not badly enough to bring the fat bigot back, however.

That was the best laugh I have had since I was a kid. A 24yr old kid came up with this? Brilliant, simple, but brilliant! You can't help, but hit your forehead with the heel of your palm and exalt," Why didn't I think of this?!". Have to go and wipe the tears from laughter off my face....
13. The New Atheists loathe religion far too much to plausibly challenge it
Comment #38270 by FoundLink on May 7, 2007 at 11:16 am
Although most of this writer's arguments are just plain silly. She may have a point that our solidarity in disbelief could potentially be as dangerous in terms of creating dichotomies as religious faith. At times I find myself having quite intolerant feelings about all believers of religion.
It is important to take care not to become the thing you dislike. Isn't the reason most of us find religion dangerous is because of it's potential to
be intolerant?

Sadly one of those boobs has a good chance of being our next dictator...er, president. Even sadder is the fact that he is only challenged by how much funds he can raise. The dems (who actually have a chance at the nomination) don't seem that much better. The one with the most corporate cash wins. An atheist (In the near future) is not electable. If we are the world leader(like American politicians so often say)following this country seems like mutually
assured destruction.
I know this sound like a rant...it is.
Have to vent some where.
To the Brits; I would trade Tony Blair for Bush any day. Meet me we can swap

I just viewed this video from a link in the archives
of this site. It is an enlightening documentary! For those who have not seen "The Atheist Tapes" here is a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF8fAOMfHyg
It's very relieving to know religious descent has been alive and well for centuries.
