1. Male circumcision is a weapon in the sperm wars

Comment #189616 by dawgdoc2000 on June 6, 2008 at 5:27 pm

In some African and Micronesian cultures, young men have one of their testicles crushed.

My nuts just crawled back up into my abdomen...ouch.

Did I read that right? They found the guy trying to off himself with a log? That's one of the funniest things I've heard. BTW, that god guy sure does take out his anger in weird ways...causing a flood in order to crash in a cave full of idiots. Why doesn't he ever take out his wrath directly on the people who transgress? Why all the innocent bystanders?

4. Beware the Believers

Comment #151773 by dawgdoc2000 on March 29, 2008 at 11:07 am

For those arguing that the Expelled crew made this based on the fact that they used their logo:

The actual expelled logo has a spray-painted "X" in the script that is not present on the video. It is close, but would not be a copyright infringement.

5. Beware the Believers

Comment #151751 by dawgdoc2000 on March 29, 2008 at 10:02 am

All right, I'm going to give this a shot. I think some confusion arises over the chorus:

Yeah he's the Dick to the Doc to the phd,
he's smarter than you he's got a science degree!
Yeah he's the Dick to the Doc to the phd,
he's smarter than you he's got a science degree!

It can be read two ways. One interpretation would seem to indicate that Dawkins (and "science" ingeneral) are elitist, snobbish, etc. The other interpretation is harder to grasp, but translated it basically says "Dawkins, et al have studied the facts and used the scientific method and they literally know more than most of the other side (especially creationists and other various religiot groups) and can back it up with science." I think the former interpretation mocks the creationist view, but the latter is likely the true message meant by the artist.

I could be completely wrong, but that is what I get from it.

6. Bart Ehrman, Questioning Religion on Why We Suffer

Comment #130251 by dawgdoc2000 on February 20, 2008 at 7:43 am

Chuck

The double double entendre is pretty clever, I'll admit (I chuckled at it), but then there's that feeling that the subject is not a joking matter. I don't think it's offensive, though. It's kind of strange the juxtaposed feelings it evokes.

Another argument for debating them is that their ignorance can be exposed as PZ did so brilliantly. Look at the comments from the UD site. Even those morons saw that Simmons was an idiot. I say debate 'em and show the world what they are all about.

9. Christianity's Image Problem

Comment #76338 by dawgdoc2000 on October 5, 2007 at 2:48 pm

From the article:
"Nine out of ten outsiders found Christians too "anti-homosexual," and nearly as many perceived it as "hypocritical" and "judgmental." Seventy-five percent found it "too involved in politics."

This slightly off topic, but a local church has sign for Sunday's sermon that reads (roughly):

Tolerance is NOT a virtue. It allows some the freedom to sin. (My emphasis)

I wonder which group this is referring to? Just another example of christian hate.

See Penn and Teller's "Bullshit" episode on PETA. You can find it on you tube. Judge for yourself.

13. What do these atheists understand of religion?

Comment #67393 by dawgdoc2000 on September 3, 2007 at 8:26 am

Some aspects of our nature are not susceptible to scientific enquiry, cannot be dissected, categorised and validated in terms that would satisfy the "rational" disbelievers, whose intellect is colossal but imagination puny.

In the 5 months that I have been coming to this site (and others) and reading these anti-Dawkins, Hitchens, atheists, et. al. articles, I have yet to see one that offers any unique criticism. So I must ask: who is it that has the "puny imagination"?

"Over the past 20 or 30 years, it has been shown that certain medical conditions benefit from a combination of two approaches: chemotherapy, for instance, can be complemented by acupuncture to relieve pain or boost stamina"

Where is/are the citation(s) for the paper(s) with the evidence that supports this statement? Oh, wait, I just need to suspend disbelief and assume what he says is accurate. Some people will never get it will they?

And Dawkins is the one "stuck in the last century"???

Ummm...can anybody tell me what this means????

I think that "Religion" also wants to limit science because they want their adherents to mindlessly accept whatever garbage they throw at them.

I think calling Hedges a "loon" is going way over the top, despite whatever he said at this debate. One of the best articles I ever read that had been posted on this forum (and I've been reading articles and comments posted here all this year) was a report by Hedges on the recruiting methods of fundamentalists. I was brought up in that environment and his observations were not only dead accurate but also very insightful.

Is there any chance you have a link to that article? Thanks.

Comment #44053 by dawgdoc2000 on May 23, 2007 at 8:24 am

And as far as I know, fraud is a crime. How come this people get away with it?

Probably because he doesn't charge for it. Donations are "optional". And technically, he's not practicing dentistry if he's not actually doing anything. Still, I wish there was some recourse for these idiots. Now people are forgoing trips to the dentist because of this guy. Why are people so damned stupid??????

The most comical (or, if you prefer, tragic) aspect of all this is that Rev. Steve Jones' own teeth are in dreadful condition. Physician, heal thyself. -eoinc

Why doesn't he help his toothless buddy Brother Connor grow some new teeth too?

21. Hitchens on Falwell, Part 2

Comment #43647 by dawgdoc2000 on May 22, 2007 at 7:24 am

Ooooh, Falwell gave away scholarships to Liberty University. That's a good thing? That's like commending Paris Hilton for giving away STDs.

22. Hubble Finds Ring of Dark Matter

Comment #43470 by dawgdoc2000 on May 21, 2007 at 2:46 pm

If this photo represented all the galaxies in the rest of the universe, it would still be impressive. The fact that this is just one relatively tiny spot in the entirety of the universe that Hubble focused on is positively mind-numbing.

Comment #42497 by dawgdoc2000 on May 18, 2007 at 9:50 am

To all:
I am new to this site and I can't tell you all how fantastic this all is. I have recently allowed myself to embrace the ideas (such as the ones in these forums) that I discovered were bouncing around in my head all these years. (I had to shake off that repressing Catholic upbringing). I feel like I have an outlet now. In the past, when I read crap such as the article above I would rant inwardly which is not very satisfying. This is great! Finally, some intelligent, informed people to interact with! Thanks to everyone.

Perhaps all that rain altered the ocean's salinity, thus requiring Noah to save all the creatures of the sea as well.
