1. Hitchens and Boteach Debate on God

Comment #125633 by AburKadabur on February 11, 2008 at 6:17 pm

Boteach fail of the night:

"When I was young they told us the earth was 4 billion years old, then it was 8, then 16. Next they'll say it's 18, 20 all the way to a trillion...Because the more they discover the more time they need."

He should ask for his tuition back, because they made him stoopider. The earth is still only 4.57 billion years old. The universe is somewhere between 13 and 16 billion years old.

Boteach: "I am no great scientist."

Me: "No you aint!"

2. Atheists' sign sparks controversy

FTA
"I feel like this is an attack on my beliefs as a religious person," said Houser.

So what? Nowhere, anywhere do you have the right not to be offended. Your right to believe is not being infringed upon.

FTA
"Imagine no religion is an attack against me, as any person of faith should take it as an attack against them," Houser said.

No. If someone were to say break a piece of wood off of the sign and then hit you on the head with it, THAT would be an attack against you.

3. CNN Request for 'I-Reports' on religion

Comment #67032 by AburKadabur on September 1, 2007 at 12:17 pm

I wrote:

I do not live by faith. If religion is under attack in modern society it is because it is worthy of attack. People are generally good and decent to one another. It's only when one is called upon by their faith to act in a truly barbaric way that good people feel compelled, at the urging of religious leaders to do evil.

Why is faith trumpeted as a virtue in the 21st century when it is such a childish justification for belief in something? Faith is literally belief in something for which there is no evidence. Or sometimes, belief in something despite contradictory evidence. For all the faithful out there, I ask you this: Is there anything else in your life besides your belief in a god that you believe in solely because of faith? Most respondents, despite the mental gymnastics or an attempt to redefine the term 'faith' would be hard pressed to find anything. This compartmentalizing of logic, knowledge and reason so that they simply don't apply to a god is mind boggling.

Belief in a god in our modern era is as ridiculous as belief that demons cause epilepsy or that Zeus causes lightning. It's simply superstitious nonsense. A mythology that has long ago worn out it's welcome.

6. Should Science Speak to Faith? A dialog between Lawrence Krauss and Richard Dawkins

"Science will destroy religion within the next 15 years."

Nietzche beat science to it over 100 years ago. Some folks just refuse to give up the corpse.
