1. Richard Dawkins on The Big Debate

Comment #118351 by 3ddm on January 30, 2008 at 3:58 pm

The idea that students who go on to University from in particular muslim schools and integrate with everyone in that university is patently absurd. I happen to lecture in such an institution, and race is generally a non-issue. In my experience black, white, asian etc etc students form friendships completely based upon personality and interests. HOWEVER, there is distinct division between the muslim cohort and everyone else. I see this on a daily basis and find it very disturbing; I am also of course not supposed to comment on it because it is deemed to be racist.

2. New attempt to end blasphemy law

As an NSS member, I received an email from them, and petitioned my MP a couple of days ago; oddly I didn't think to make a fuss about it here. It seems in retrospect a perfectly obvious thing to do. Does anyone know if there is anything else we can currently do to try and make this happen? Much as I love this web site and forum, I'd relish the opportunity to be a bit more militant in the real world.

"Great. While people are arguing about physics and whether or not a higgs boson exists, there are millions of people living in abject poverty, under crushing oppression, and our climate is changing in ways that even we do not fully yet understand.

There are much more important priorities in our world than trying to figure out how many neutrenos can pass through the head of a pin...."

False dichotomy dude!

"Richard Dawkins believes God does not exist. I believe God does exist. Each of us has a fifty percent chance of being right - or wrong. Neither of us can prove our case. End of story, and PLEASE, end of all this idiotic fuss about it."

Or slightly rephrased:

"Richard Dawkins believes Great Cthulhu does not exist. I believe Great Cthulhu does exist. Each of us has a fifty percent chance of being right - or wrong. Neither of us can prove our case. End of story, and PLEASE, end of all this idiotic fuss about it."

Hmmm, methinks the idiocy is located elsewhere...

The Skeptics guide to the Universe is in my humble opinion the best podcast there is. It is always witty and entertaining and they have loads of great guests. Well worth a (free) download.

Incredible! I keep trying to use humour to convince the confused, but I think that this would go straight over most of their heads.

Don't know if this has been posted before:

7. CNN Request for 'I-Reports' on religion

I don't often find the time to post anything, but this one got my hackles up, I posted the following.

Faith is simply non-thinking - I prefer to think. I prefer evidence over dogma and one would expect nothing less of a news agency. It is sad and a little pathetic that you should even feel the necessity to pose such questions. Why not try enlightening your viewers to the wonders of the real universe rather than pandering to their fears and primitive superstitions.
Religion belittles the human intellect and I reject it.

I feel a little better now :)

A giant storm larger than this whole planet has been raging on Jupiter for a couple of hundred years.
I'd love to know what this moron thinks his imaginary friend is punishing there!

What a total F***tart!

9. The Stupidity of Fox News is Truly Beyond Belief

Incredibly dumb interview - but hey, it may end up selling a few more books and if we get one convert...
As for the idea of atheism being a fad?!?!
When I was 9 I got an Evel Knievel stunt bike. At about the same time I also figured out for myself that all this god stuff was about as real as the Santa that had 'brought' me the bike.
Guess which of those faddy 'gifts' has stayed with me the longest...

Free thought is for life not just for Christmas :)

Friend Giskard - Having read all 6 of the books mentioned, Onfray for me makes the least convincing case. It's likely that it has lost a little 'something' in the translation from the original French.
