An excellent article. Mark Twain (one of my heroes) wrote an article about the oyster considering itself the peak of perfection, and hence the goal to which evolution was clearly aimed. Re the dice problem of rolling 20 sixes in a row: Since there are six possible outcomes of each roll and we assume that all six outcomes are equally likely, on average it will take three rolls to come up with a six. Then only 60 rolls are required not 120. But why argue when you've got 3.5 billion years to roll the dice!
