1. Should We Rid The Mind of God? A Debate

Comment #198404 by plastictowel on June 23, 2008 at 7:25 pm

You guys put this up already!
Regardless, an amazing debate of serious intellectual rigor (atkins) and farting (mcgrath).

2. God and Science Collide in Nation's Capital

Comment #181756 by plastictowel on May 18, 2008 at 7:00 am

Wait so now Shermers "spiritual and agnostic?" Uh the man was an atheist last time I checked...what happened there?

3. 'Framing Science' and The Dawkins Effect

Comment #180302 by plastictowel on May 14, 2008 at 2:27 pm

Devolution, you have a right to an opinion, but I must impugn....Why or how is Chris Mooney a douche bag? His book "The Republican War on Science" is a political treasure, in my opinion.

5. Why Darwin matters

Comment #124130 by plastictowel on February 8, 2008 at 12:28 pm

Bitbutter I'd have to politely disagree. I think Dawkins is again saying what all honest Darwinian biologist are saying. ONCE life get's started, it follows Natural Selection. And Dawkins is simply stating that once life get's started on *insert random planet* by whatever natural path leads to such a thing, it will follow a natural selection process on its on unique environment.

Keep in mind he says he "believes" life exist elsewhere. So he isn't saying how or why it came to be elsewhere.

6. Christopher Hitchens Debates Timothy Jackson

Comment #122621 by plastictowel on February 5, 2008 at 4:43 pm

Why does no one EVER put these debates in windows or Microsoft format! I can't ever burn these, and I have too much hubris to watch movies/debates from my pc! Yahweh damnit.

7. Interview with Christopher Hitchens

Comment #93634 by plastictowel on December 3, 2007 at 7:21 pm

I thought the female interviewer was titillated by his voice!

8. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #93606 by plastictowel on December 3, 2007 at 5:46 pm

It's an ideology not a religion, however both rely on a heaping dose of "faith," and blind support and belief in the "one true power," replace god with stalin. I say as atheist we be careful, don't call it a religion, call it a dogmatic ideology and we are fine.

10. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #93484 by plastictowel on December 3, 2007 at 8:32 am

are you serious Dr Benway? Your example is uncanny and almost plagiarized off of Freedom Evolves. Not that I'm accusing you of such, just interesting you and Dennett have the exact same analogy.

11. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #93474 by plastictowel on December 3, 2007 at 7:58 am

Blackwolf the dumbo analogy is taken out of Dennett's book "Freedom Evolves."

12. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #93418 by plastictowel on December 3, 2007 at 5:55 am

Well pascals wager also fails because it presumes God ISN'T Omniscient. How the hell does one "fake" belief, or force belief, without such a deity knowing. Yes I could lie and tell society I'm a theist, but my scruples would reminds me right after I said it "You're lying!"

13. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #92832 by plastictowel on December 1, 2007 at 2:38 pm

The pathetic thing is, and I do love Dan Dennett as a Philosopher and Author...but Christ he could of done better. Shermer too. This is simply pathetic. I've debated people at my school and friends of mine on the same caliber as Dinesh, and obliterated them. As a 21 year old college student, I think I could of done better than Dennett, and Shermer.

For the love of goodness Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris, debate this man, or me. I'd gladly do it.

14. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #92740 by plastictowel on December 1, 2007 at 11:24 am

I love Dinesh's comment: The Muslims and Palestinians aren't fighting over religion, but land!

How daft is he? They are fighting over the land BECAUSE THEIR RELIGION says it's holy land.

15. Sam Harris at AAI 07

Comment #82086 by plastictowel on October 25, 2007 at 4:50 pm

Steve you answered your own question be calling them a Buddhist....

16. Debate between Christopher Hitchens and Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #81374 by plastictowel on October 24, 2007 at 4:25 pm

Let's be candid Hitchen was more drunk than usual, and he did let a few points he can usually vindicate slide right by.

Professor Dawkins, I plead you to debate this man. He's one of the terrors we deal with in the USA and a scientist with a real understanding of our evolutionary background needs to shut him up. You or Harris please. Shermer was way too kind and humored him on way too many points. And again, Hitchens was simply too drunk, and he's not a scientist. The USA needs your knowledge.

17. A Table for One

Comment #70867 by plastictowel on September 17, 2007 at 5:28 am

I watch Colbert every night, and I must say in the past year he's done more for atheism/agnosticism, and the acceptance of science over scripture than any other show I'm familiar with. It's galling to try and comprehend him as a catholic. Although I did read the same review where he claimed he was one.

18. The Fleas Are Multiplying!

Comment #68694 by plastictowel on September 8, 2007 at 7:09 am

Dr.Dawkins how much of the flea circus have you read? I'm sure no one expects you to read every critique as cumbersome as that would be. At the same time though it's always good to hear opposing positions to your own, mostly to augment or vindicate your position! Are there any Dr.Dawkins that you actually enjoyed, or bothered to read beyond McGrath's? (I was going to get his book, but after watching Atkins, Dennett, and yourself humiliate him in debates, I'll pass)

19. 'Root of All Evil? The Uncut Interviews' Released on DVD

Comment #67907 by plastictowel on September 5, 2007 at 5:30 am

I noticed on the google video version of ROAE Haggard pulls up in a truck and kicks Dawkins off the property. However when I purchased the ROAE DvD this footage was omitted. How is only a portion of the interview legal, but all this other footage not? Or is even that asking too much?

20. Christopher Hitchens and Bill Donohue on Mother Teresa

Comment #66324 by plastictowel on August 29, 2007 at 5:28 pm

What a dolt.
"only dogmatic atheist don't have doubt"
The entire PREMISE OF ATHEISM IS DOUBT.

22. Al Gore on Reason

Comment #44965 by plastictowel on May 25, 2007 at 5:14 pm

Vinelectric he said you can't believe in god and evolution, he didn't say the judeo-christian Yahweh. Again Deism and Evolution can go hand and hand. God caused the big bang, subsequently leading to evolution, even if it was blind. You can even form a dichotomy here where one branch can claim that secretly it was all deterministic to lead to man, or that man really isn't special in the grand scheme of the cosmos, even if a deity created the cosmos. Either way "a belief in god and evolution" IS compatible.
And I'm bloody atheist here and even I can see it's okay.

23. Al Gore on Reason

Comment #44956 by plastictowel on May 25, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Whats important is that i don't believe in god.
Even that isn't "important" per say. Really reason and rationality in my humble opinion take precedent over a bright future/movement than belief in a deity.

24. Al Gore on Reason

Comment #44943 by plastictowel on May 25, 2007 at 4:03 pm

Carnitine I fully agree, and there is even room for "god" outside theistic evolution. After all, although I'm atheist, I can easily fathom that although evolution may be blind, deism is still perfectible plausible for the creation of the cosmos in which our evolution occurred.

25. Al Gore on Reason

Comment #44935 by plastictowel on May 25, 2007 at 3:46 pm

Mind_rebel every time I see you make a post on here or the forums it's an extremely crude, ignorant, usually wrong, bigoted statement. Why is this?

27. Face-Off: Can You Prove God Exists?

Comment #40445 by plastictowel on May 14, 2007 at 9:52 am
Unfortunately, this nationally-televised program did not have more well spoken, erudite, neatly dressed atheists. It sends the message to the country that this young man and woman are the best that atheists can muster to debate theists, which is very far from the truth. Hitchens has said he will enter a debate anytime, anywhere -- ABC should've called him instead.
See I more get the impression that the evangelicals sent their best to face off against some average Joe Schmos. These aren't PHD holding professors like Dawkins, Brian looks like someone you'd see at a waffle house hung over at 4-5a.m. and he has no problem pummeling Comfort and Cameron.

29. The Most Hated Family in America

Comment #29598 by plastictowel on April 3, 2007 at 2:26 pm

It's no april fools joke, I saw this woman on "Fox News" (I only watch it to understand the "other" side, and I almost always disagree) doing exactly this kind of protesting about 12-14 months ago.

31. Richard Dawkins interview with Paula Zahn

Comment #22176 by plastictowel on February 13, 2007 at 6:25 am

p.s. the only thing I didn't like about Richards approach "this" time, was twice he referred to atheist thinking as a "different sent of beliefs." I don't "believe" in anything, which is precisely why I'm atheist. I follow the robust evidence to wherever it leads me, I don't care what the truth is, so long as it's the truth!

32. Richard Dawkins interview with Paula Zahn

Comment #22175 by plastictowel on February 13, 2007 at 6:23 am

The black preacher, I believe Peterson? Jesus...he was the epitome of an ignoramus.

33. Interview with Chris Hedges

Comment #21988 by plastictowel on February 12, 2007 at 5:04 am

Christ I'm stumped. For one, I love Colbert, he's hysterical and holds the best satire character around. However the man is actually catholic outside his show and that vexes me so much I want to pass out. Second...why is Chris Hedges a Christian...I don't get these people! If they see all the wrong, what's with the constant reinterpreting till it's right!

34. Interview with Alister McGrath, author of 'The Dawkins Delusion?'

Comment #20812 by plastictowel on February 6, 2007 at 5:12 pm

Extremely unconvincing. I can't wait for the debate with Dennett, and please Dawkins, like you did the Liberty University zealots, rip this guy a new intellectual orifice please?

35. Randi and 800 Other Amazing Skeptics

Comment #19139 by plastictowel on January 25, 2007 at 6:13 am

Oh and yes Hitchens made it a point to let the audience know he was in fact an atheist, and he was clearly the most well spoken man there. His vocabulary almost sent me to my room to read the dictionary for sport.

36. Randi and 800 Other Amazing Skeptics

Comment #19138 by plastictowel on January 25, 2007 at 6:05 am

I was at this event! It was simply amazing! Can't wait to go back next year, and I really hope Dawkins attends!

37. Richard Dawkins' Report Card

Comment #17016 by plastictowel on January 10, 2007 at 5:00 am

Is this his real report card?
If so latin and french at age 8...Impressive!

38. William Crawley, BBC Belfast, names Richard Dawkins as Person of the Year 2006

Comment #15562 by plastictowel on January 1, 2007 at 10:02 am

I do wonder why so many people find him "rude." Just because he makes valid counter points in open debates, doesn't mean he's "rude."

39. How the Great Atheist got polite society standing

Comment #14706 by plastictowel on December 24, 2006 at 4:15 pm
Could he ever respect a believer? "Oh yes," he says breezily, "because there's such an enormous spectrum of people who call themselves religious, some of whom don't really believe in God at all."

So there you have it. Dawkins doesn't mind religious people so long as they don't believe in God.
That's not what he's saying at all.

42. Ken Miller on Intelligent Design

Comment #12595 by plastictowel on December 12, 2006 at 5:13 pm

I watched this guy on colbert and really like him. Hell even he is a christian I think that only benefits the good find of keep evolution ONLY in schools.

43. Richard Dawkins on The Late Late Show with Pat Kenny

Comment #12147 by plastictowel on December 10, 2006 at 7:31 pm

Well all of us atheist could switch to theism...I mean we are all open minded enough to agree if some kind of genuine miracle like the clouds opening up and god shouting "Hail Friends!" we'd cave. But it's because we are open minded that we could make an honest switch to theism, not a "leap of faith."
