No. We don't need to understand each other's faith.
Faith needs to be kept private. The faithful need to learn to be as private about their faith as they would like non-believers and those who believe differently to be.
That is the only sensible solution. Keep your faith in the closet along with your fetishes. You are free to have them; you are not free to inflict them on me.

I wonder if we can learn more from satellite (Google Earth?) images of the area. I think if we learn more, we can find a better way to approach them and incorporate them if they desire. But we must not expose them to our diseases. I wonder if there is something we can "plant" in the are (a book with pictures, etc. that would allow them to understand a little bit of what is out there... and if it had a camera with feed back we could learn their response.
In many ways they are like aliens, even though they share very recent ancestors with all of us.

Interesting how it's disbelief in their own particular brand of religion that they find delusional. I don't see them telling Scientologists or Muslims to "keep the faith". Everyone is so sure that their woo is true.
I also find it amusing that they repeat this notion that atheists are militant and aggressive as though saying it over and over makes it true. Of course, when have been indoctrinated to believe that faith is a source of "higher truth", evidence becomes less important than what you can make yourself believe through repetition.
My assessment? --Another author trying to prove to themselves why their beliefs make more sense than all those other beliefs they find silly.

Since Christians can't agree on who is and isn't a true Christian, I suspect this won't go over well-- but at least we'll know which people to feed to the lions.
