1. We need to stop being such cowards about Islam

I see that the book "The Jewel of Medina" is listed on Amazon. See:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jewel-Medina-Sherry-Jones/dp/0345503163

The book is not yet available, but you can pre-order it. Perhaps a full order book will encourage publication.

2. German Church admits aiding Nazis

Comment #158443 by Peter_on_Sax on April 10, 2008 at 2:16 pm

I'm sorry but I'm very cynical about any "admission" by the German church. The historical facts of the Roman Catholic support for Hitler, in response to his "church tax" bribe, is well documented (see Wikipedia). Hitler paid the Vatican to keep stum, and they did. The Lutheran hatred of Jews is historic. The tragedy is, nothing has changed. In my local Lutheran church in Germany, the only texts on the walls are not biblical quotes, but a list of Nazis who died in the war. My children attended confirmation classes in the church, but all they learned was how the church exploits the weak. My youngest son's "classes" for many weeks required him to deliver free newspapers for many hours each week, so the church could claim his wages. If a new Hitler emerged today on the German political stage, the churches would do just the same as they did in the 1930's. In short. don't trust Germany - it's not over yet.

To restore some sort of proportion, I checked Amazon UK.

"The God Delusion" Price GBP 4.39, Sales Rank: 28, In Stock.

"The Dawkins Letters" by David Robertson, Price GBP 4.49, Sales Rank 4358, Out Of Stock.

Could it be the 10p that makes all the difference?

4. Thy will be done

It's many years since I last witnessed public prayers. Many years, that is, until I was invited to a church wedding last year. I was concerned as to how an atheist should behave in church. It was a C. of E. ceremony, so I would be expected to sing along during the hymns and to join in with reading prayers from the Prayer Book. In the event, my problem was resolved by forgetting my reading glasses. :-)

6. Religion 'linked to happy life'

Comment #146049 by Peter_on_Sax on March 18, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Sorry, but when I originally wrote the report, I didn't say "belief in God", I said "substance abuse could lead to a more contented life". Funny how editors change these things around.

7. Beauty ad banned after Christian outcry

I would like to thank the Archdeacon of Liverpool and the other 22 Christians for drawing my attention to this beautifully made advert. Without their help, I may never have seen it. Thanks again.

OK, ok, so I've downloaded the software and signed up to climate and malaria. I had to - couldn't stand the peer-to-peer pressure any more. So now what? Will the climate people tell the malaria people where the mosquitoes will go next? And then, will my PC get merits and go to silicon heaven? And don't try to tell me I'm deluded about silicon heaven! Or answer me this: where do all the little calculators go? well?

Don't worry - I think these four are too stupid to breed.
