1. A New Jack Chick Tract: Moving On Up!

Comment #174938 by Cerberus on May 3, 2008 at 10:30 pm

Ha! That shit is hilarious. I've been reading those Jack Chick comics for years. They never fail to entertain. Personally, I can't wait until they come out with a Jack Chick graphic novel or maybe a live-action movie. Hollywood's a-callin'.

Something like this? http://www.316now.com/heaven.html
Jack Chick didn't do those things but it's quite similar to the tracks and at least as disturbing.

2. In Britain, creationist theory is evolving

By the way, this Monty White is an interesting fellow, earning a doctorate at the age of 19. At a christian university? Maybe that explains his problems with determining the date of events.

I've noticed that as well, in fact, he earned his doctorate in 1970, which still mean he earned it when he was 25. The article is still wrong though, he did not get his doctorate before becoming a YEC.

Mike Gravel would be pretty good, except I'm not sure if he is still in the race, not like he had any chances anyway. I'm pretty sure he even said that he didn't believe in god as well (he is a unitarian I think). I'm not sure if he would have been good on other issues though.

5. Girl, 16, dies after hijab dispute with father

This reminds me of what happened at my school 13 years ago when one of the student was killed along with 4 of her sisters by their own father for a question of "honour".

In Quebec, it is probably more to do with maintaining their cultural identity than any sort of god

Actually, it depends which generation you are, people from around my age (I'm 25), won't say they are catholic if they don't believe in a god (and for the record, people my age in Quebec who are not atheists are a minority), they will say they are atheists. People from the same generation of my parents however, will usually say they are catholics, but it's mostly a question of habit.

I believe that Trondon is righ, Quebec is the least religious province in Canada, followed very closely by BC according to several polls. The census stats are not exactly accurate. In Quebec, most people, even though they are atheist, will say they are catholics, but many of them mean "culturally catholic". I know it's the same thing for many people in Ontario as well.

In Quebec, in a poll form 2005, 32% said they did not beleive in a god and this year, in another poll, 40% in Quebec said they believed humans evolved without the help of a god.

Also, according to a poll from 2005, Quebec in BC were the places were people said religion had the least importance in their lives, so it would seems that many of the religious people are not very religious (that's the way it is in Quebec anyway).

8. Creationism raised as Ont. election issue

It would seem the catholic school we had in Québec were quite different. In primary school (or elementary if you prefer), everyone had 1 hour a week of religion (catholic of course). Religion was the default choice but we could choose to have "moral" taugh instead of religion (yes, taht was the actual name of the class). Around 10% of the school had "moral" only. We never had to go to mass or anything either.

In secondary school, we had 2-3 hours or religion or moral again, except this time, half the school chose moral now (or rather, their parents let them).

Now, however, faith school in Québec have all been pretty much abolished and now children have (or will have) classes on the major religions in the world, so it's kinda like a class on the history of religion. I guess we now have what Dennett is proposing.

Also, every school has to follow the government approve curriculum, which means you have to teach evolution, if you don't, the school will be closed down.

9. Bill Maher Making New Documentary Movie, 'Religulous'

By the way, Fanusi Khyyal, Bill Maher once said that he wasn't an atheist, he does hates organized religion however. He said that he believes in some force out there, or god if you will.

I think you're right GreyBishop, Brownback doesn't believe in evolution, along with Tancredo and Huckabee.

I've looked at the site, and I honestly don't know if it's suppose to be satire or not. That's a problem with many right-wing christians,it's hard to tell when they're serious or not.
