1. Lynchings in Congo as penis theft panic hits capital

Comment #172056 by metalrockchick on April 29, 2008 at 7:32 am

Oh no they got me! I have no penis!!!!

Oh wait I'm a girl...

Maybe the poor blokes were just really small and wanted an excuse to blame someone else. Or maybe if they actually believe this crap they thought they might trick the magicians into giving them a larger one?

2. The real danger in Darwin is not evolution, but racism

Comment #115487 by metalrockchick on January 24, 2008 at 8:34 am

I recently had a discussion about this with my Dad (who is a protestant) who shouted down the phone "Darwin must be wrong because he was an evil racist!" I actually laughed at him becasue the way I see it it doesn't matter if a person is nice or not if their science is sound. Being "evil" doesn't make Darwin a worse scientist just a product of his time (assuming the accusation is true). Most people in our culture were racist then because they hadn't yet worked out that we are all the same species. And to compare him with the Nazis is just ridiculous. Even if they did hijack his theories for their own ends how could he be complicit in something which happened so long AFTER he had died? Silly buggers

3. What does atheism say about the purpose (or the meaning) of life?

Comment #114881 by metalrockchick on January 23, 2008 at 5:31 am

Actually I beleive that religion has a tendancy to reduce any meaning for life. Why? Because many religions see life as unimportant compared to what comes next be it heaven, Hell or some other plane of existance. As an atheist I don't look forward to being dead and going to a better place so I already know that here and now is the best place to be and that I should make sure I enjoy it and use it in a useful way until my own demise and end. I don't want to die and any religion that askes it's followers to do so is forcing them to act in a completely irrational and unnatural way. After all, does your dog look forward to dying? Of course not!

4. Banishing the Green-Eyed Monster

I kind of agree with dgr8test97 in that 'cheating' is usually called that because a couple have an agreement to remain monogamous sexually. I know many people who have sexual relationships with others outside their marriage (for want of a better word as some are not) and the fact that they both agree to this lifestyle actually helps their relationship become stronger. Sadly this is not always the case and many found that despite their good intentions the 'green eyed monster' rose its ugly head and destroyed their relationship unexpectadly. I think that basically we have got so used to jelousy that we mostly find it very difficult to let it go whether this is a religious hang-over, a cultural expectation or just a personal issue. To all those who can and do let go of it BRAVO! To all those who still prefer monogamy BRAVO! Neither are easy to maintain and we must remember that it is our diversity and adaptability which makes us human and helped us to evolve into the amazing creatures we are today
