The story reminds me of "Dancer in the Dark" with Björk...

Well, you would consider the extra chromosome people to be disabled, wouldn't you? How would you distinguish between what is a disability and what is not? (I'm throwing bombs here, I know).
Is it what will cause the person to have a life of lower quality? Because I think many disabled people (mentally disabled) don't really think of themselves as disabled. Different, yes. But disabled, no.
And sure a homosexual person is different. It's nothing bad, it's just a fact. It's a matter of pure statistics - how many homosexuals are born compared to heterosexuals.
Maybe the real issue is whether or not the parents believe it's a disability (probably to them, not the child). At the moment, there is little evidence showing that being homosexual is a disability - it might be so in some places due to the unjust treatment they receive by certain individuals and groups of people. But that's not a "homosexual problem" that is a problem of for instance the conservative religious people who choose (probably unlike the homosexuals) that they will not like the homosexuals.
All this is just to shed light on the fact that not everything we see as a disability is really so.

It's articles like this one that gets my blood boiling. How can anybody fail to grasp the facts of the things that surround them? How can they be offended at someone stating that he does not believe in God.
Who would defend the man in Congress stating that "I believe in The Force" as a literal truth after he's been laughed at? Not the conservative Christians at least as they might be the ones laughing.
At times like this I'm glad we have the RDF forums.

I find it puzzling that many conservatives in the US are deeply religious while at the same time find it hard to believe evidence such as this report.
Perhaps it's because it's not as nice. No eternal life or other cool stuff like an invisible friend.

When you realize that something you have said, directly or indirectly, might have offended someone, it seems only fair to apoligize. It's not all about being right or wrong in an argument. Sincerely apologizing to someone even though you don't really feel that the mistake is your own reveals one of the more positive sides of the human being - I'm glad Richard Dawkins possesses this quality and I agree with his apology (if one can do such a thing). It was not the time and place to start an argument on who's right and who's wrong.

Melisande, why don't you read the article?
Having read one (ONE) article with someone named "Hitchens" and then automatically banning all posts by people of that name does not work well. I don't know what you read before, but this is a good article.
I was going to post a comment about how much I like the comments after each of the articles posted here on RDF - they sometimes add just as much value as the original article itself. Just turned out a bit more vague now :(

On a positive note, this is one of the more neutral articles to be found on Christianity Today. I did find myself wondering "What is the author's aim/goal with this article?".
Once again it is as if the religious want to force atheism into a box labelled either a "faith" or "philosophy" unable to see the big picture due to the fact that they themselves are standing in the biggest box of all.
