Cardinal Murphy O'Connor: "...having a country in which, if you like, a God free zone, a dictatorship ruled by reason, and where does it lead? To terror and oppression..."

This indoctrination has to end.
Whether it is the Imams, Cardinals or Ben Stein and his cohorts, they all suffer from the same delusions. This indoctrination has to end. They only have one agenda, and the end justifies the means.

There is a difference between "Why was the Cardinal's lecture given such prominent billing on a national news programme AT ALL?" (i.e. a prime time slot)
And the totalitarian...
"Why was the Cardinal's lecture given any billing on a national news programme AT ALL? (i.e. no slot)

Comment #177054 by Verylee on May 8, 2008 at 1:58 pm

Do people think it is worth bothering to go on the radio to talk about it?

I imagine that you (R.D.) are getting the status of a ratings booster by now! and if people are listening when you talk (and they are), then why not expose all this nonsense at every opportunity. We are reaching a tipping point with "soft" religion, but there is still a long way to go regarding hard core delusions.

If all else fails, just turn nasty and fight back.

This is proof that the earth is "At Least" 4,500 years old....well that answers everything, no more questions!
No wonder R.D refuses to debate(?) this kind of thinking. He says it's because it would look bad on his CV, but we all know the real reason is that he is scared they will wipe the floor with him!

Comment #173822 by Verylee on May 1, 2008 at 9:19 am

I didn't know where to post this, I thought this was as good a place as any!
I don't post very often because the standard of the posters here is so high and I have often felt that my comments would be inconsequential and redundant in comparison! I don't really know how to say this haha! but I have been lurking since late last year, and I have often wondered about the no regulation policy. If it was not some sort of social (evolutionary!) experiment to see how the fora and its fawna would develop over time. Whether the site would become self regulatory (as in 3 strikes and you are out) or descend into bun fights and the lowest common denominator?
I have noticed that several of the more respected and respectable posters have ceased posting (Steve Zara being the latest) I am sure partly as a result of the deliberate sabotaging of the site by IDiots and theists with their deceit, malice, ignorance (feigned or otherwise), evasions etc etc...and also it has to be said, some of the reason-able members do not come across as reason-able as they would like to think. When Dr B suggested "three strikes and you're out". I thought "Yessss", but it will only work if it is adhered to. So until then I guess we will have to put up with the wooters, seekers, D.R's, old tired arguments as they will feel under no pressure to change or come up with anything new.
I hope I am making sense!! I have learnt so much from this site, I would hate to see it descend into the lowest common denominator.

In other words, if you don't provide any data for your opinion that the Earth is at least 4,500 years old,

Utter silliness of which I tire.
I'm off for the day and may be back tomorrow. I don't know why I refuse to accustom myself to the bias that whittles 'argumentation' down to the level as is evidenced by this post

Well, I also think that the earth is at least 4,500 years old as well. In fact I think it is at least 4 to 4.5 billion years old (as do 99%). I think seeker was being disingenious and pedantic to justify his quitting in a huff. He does not have the courage of his convictions to state clearly, exactly what he does believe. He obviously does not believe his beliefs like a good believer should.

Thanks for that Border Collie. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) I do not have a TV...I hope my comments did not come across as a bit narky. I lived in the bush for a long time, and I have seen the lengths that photographers and filmers would go to to get (create) a shot, so my first reaction was, "set-up"! I have no doubt that the "Forest Men" have caught and eaten fish in the way you describe, but I think it would be very local incidence. Their main diet is veggie burger and regular flies to go, when no-one is looking!

Comment #171017 by Verylee on April 28, 2008 at 8:37 am

Nice pic, but I am a bit (very!) skeptical about its veracity. It looks very contrived/set up to me, and I thought that Orangutans ate fruit and bugs in the main, so why would one decide to go for such a slippery catch (High effort/low payoff) for protein when mice and voles would suffice? I don't know, it's in the Mail, so it must be true! Holiday snap of the editor maybe?

I think that the slogan says more about the wearer than the emotional state of Gays....consciousness raising in a perverse way. Those that agree with the sentiment will think no further anyway, but those who have not really thought much about it, may think...."You know, they really are a bunch of F***ing bigots."
Some of the CRETINists and IDiots that post here are damaging their own causes in much the same way I am sure.

Why? would they "Expell" him too!
As I understand it. The invitation was in the name of P.Z. Myers PLUS guests (no names were requested). When RD went to check/sign in as an invited guest he showed the I.D that he had on him which was his passport, which showed his birth certificate name as Clinton Richard Dawkins. I bet he signed (If he had to) with his usual signature. Who reads them? They saw the I.D.
My everyday name is not the same as the one on my passport either.

Cause what may now seem the "best fitting explanation", will be regarded as a joke to future generations! Your kids will laugh at you for believing such nonsense!

Possibly yes, but so what? That's science. Future generations of scientists will take up the mantle and continue to ask questions and get answers based on reason, lifetimes of research and available evidence. How much easier it would be if everyone just agreed that goddidit and that we prostrate ourselves in front of all its gory. Oh the arrogance of scientists.
