most people in the U.S. seem too stupid to figure out how to telecommute to work with existing technology, so the U.S. appears to be in for a wrenching economic transition

Dawkins did say on a recent interview that people in the UK are replacing religion with pseudo-science. What a shame. But at least they don't kill each other fighting over which herb cures athlete's foot! :)

Who? Madeline Bunting? Yeah nothing gets my pulse racing like an ineptly argued case for religion.

Why is it theists can talk about other cultures and other gods and not even lose a little bit of faith in their god(s)?

If CNN decides to do this, it could prove very eye-opening for a lot of people. If they ask them why they carried out the attacks on 9/11 and they tell the world that it was motivated by Islam, that will settle it once and for all. A lot of people think that it's socio-political or economical factors.
Can't wait to see what happens.

I agree with the article and as much as I hate to say this, we should learn from politicians, especially Republicans.
The Death Tax (sounds bad), Pro-Life (sounds good), The Clean Air Act (sounds good), etc.
These things have names that make them almost immune to criticism. Most people don't even know what the Death Tax is but they will be against it because it sounds really bad. (I mean who wants to be taxed when they die?!) The unconcious positive feeling of the term Pro-Life is engrained in your brain before you even know what the term refers to. So you become pre-disposed to being Pro-Life. And then there's the Republican's term for Pro-Choice (Pro-Death!).
Atheist has a negative connotation and it is because religious people have hijacked it. However, if we choose a name that sounds inherently good (like Pro-Life) but without being smug (Brights), I think that would do wonders for our public image.

In my opinion that is a good thing. I think the reason it is on the rise is because they know their arguments don't hold weight against ours, so they must fall back on that.

Quit your damn whining and get over yourselves! These people are so delicate, becoming offended by the slightest provocation. There are only two explanations for this:
Either (1) they really are this rigid, or (2) they only pretend to be this rigid in order to have a reason to attack someone. Either way, it is immensely frightening.

I think this is great.
madpatriot:
I have never heard of Celestia. I'll have to look that up. But the important thing is, even if it doesn't replace Celestia, Google is a household name which means this service could reach millions of people.
Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but it might get more people interested in science and eventually lead them down the path to atheism.
