1. VOICES OF SCIENCE - Available Now on DVD

Comment #211198 by ficklefiend on July 15, 2008 at 2:58 pm

..but HourglassMemory, free is the currency of the net!

People donate to the charity and buy the DVDs to fund the percentage of that content that gets distributed for free. It's that free content that's really going to reach people, the DVDs are for the ones already on side.

Fundamentally the only enviromentally friendly way to live is in high density cities where your place is work is within walking distance or via public transport. This is perfectly possible common (dominant) in Europe and happens occassionaly in the US

Unfortunatly, large cities swallow your soul.

More buses is the way for me. I would love it if everyone had a sort of oyster card that you could top up and use on ANY bus across the UK- how much simpler would that be?

4. Open Letter to a victim of Ben Stein's lying propaganda

Comment #165558 by ficklefiend on April 21, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Quine posted a couple of links on the comments, and I scrolled through them quickly to get an idea of the reaction this film is getting. I find this in the middle of the first one, "American Thinker"-
"
It might have been nice if Stein had pointed out that the example typically given of evolution by natural selection -- white moths in industrial Great Britain dying when the smokestacks appeared and black moths surviving -- was a proof that no change in species and no mutations were required at all: The black and white moths were both of the same species."

What does that even mean, "no change in species"??...Seriously! 12 paragraphs of bile poured over Darwin and Atheism and this is the knowledge you use to back it up?

This has put me in a pessimistic mood. I hope this letter gets a response because it seems there's a long way to go still..

6. Discussion between Richard Dawkins and Paula Kirby

*sigh* people making the mistake of thinking we are some pinnacle of evolution to be reached, some endpoint... it's what makes people think we're special and need a god, I wish they would understand!

7. Beware the Believers

Hmm, that Expelled logo does seem very prominent, and I think the lyrics go on too much about how clever he is.. I would say it's supposed to be negative towards the atheists, although it could have been much, much worse.
What's throwing me is how well made it is.

8. Discussion on PZ Myers being expelled from Expelled

That really is a lovely video, but I get the feeling it is meant for people who already know some molecular biology- it's not exactly in layman's terms! Anyone who has done some molecular biology will know that it's a simplified version made to look pretty and make you go "wow", so I guess that's why it's not explained that much. :)

9. Ayaan Hirsi Ali to get EU protection

Comment #136376 by ficklefiend on March 1, 2008 at 3:09 am

Not sure about the way they say "she enjoyed special 24-hour Dutch police protection" as if 24 police protection is a fun or pleasant thing to have to walk around with.

10. Add another flea to the list...

Ah, thank goodness. It's been a while since we've seen a new flea. I almost thought they had given up!

11. Charles Simonyi Professorship in the Public Understanding of Science

Reading this it strikes me how wonderfully Prof. Dawkins has fulfilled the "mission statement" of his position. Thanks and good luck to his successor!

12. Female Muslim medics 'disobey hygiene rules'

Comment #121536 by ficklefiend on February 3, 2008 at 3:00 pm

Hmm, surely as doctors they must have to do plenty of stuff that's against the teachings of the koran?
What about looking at naked man bits for one.. how do they justify that but not rolling up their sleeves?

14. An Open Letter to Richard Dawkins

Comment #97015 by ficklefiend on December 11, 2007 at 9:24 am

What I hate about this old arguement is that no one ever explains why I should care if Stalin or Hitler were athiests. What difference would that make to my morality?

15. Ask The God Delusion author Richard Dawkins

The BBC really don't like their programmes to be given out to international viewers who don't pay the license fee, so you won't get it on their own iplayer.

You can hope for the world service or someone to upload it to a tv links type site or torrent though.
