3. Why Darwin matters

Indeed. I do think Hitchen's summary is one of the best - alluding to Darwin as the greatest emancipator.

4. Christopher Hitchens Debates Timothy Jackson

I rather prefer Hitchens when his tongue is a bit anesthetized by the drink! Aside, it is always entertaining to watch him debate.

5. Are Darwin's Theories Fact or Faith Issues?

Comment #120295 by AnthSynthasome on February 1, 2008 at 11:45 am

Why is Simmons so offended by being called "ignorant"? Dawkins writes, I believe correctly, that "Not only is ignorance no crime. It is also, fortunately, remediable." It is not as if PZ called Simmons "...stupid, insane, or wicked." I daresay, Simmons should be thankful for PZ's merciful word choice - he could have used other equally accurate terms, albeit more acerbic (e.g. stupid). Good riddance.

PZ - You made this Minnesotan nonbeliever proud. How did you resist the temptation to hang up?

7. Pope says some science shatters human dignity

Comment #120156 by AnthSynthasome on February 1, 2008 at 9:50 am

Come on everyone - let's take it easy on the ol' Vicar of Christ. He's just anxious and nervous because his cherished gaps are being filled by those indefatigable rascals - the scientists!

10. Debate between Christopher Hitchens and Alister McGrath

Comment #79161 by AnthSynthasome on October 16, 2007 at 11:03 am

I was fortunate enough to attend this debate and was, avoiding the use of some foul-mouthed caveat, 'miffed' to see how Jacqueline Salmon of the Washington Post wrote of the debate. I suggest watching the debate for yourselves and comparing it to her peculiar interpretation. I couldn't help but wonder if we were talking about the same debate! Her article:

A brief aside: I wish you could have seen the flat affect on the faces of some of the Jesuits in attendance after a few of Hitchen's deliveries. It was utterly priceless.

11. Ayaan Hirsi Ali: abandoned to fanatics

Comment #77486 by AnthSynthasome on October 9, 2007 at 12:11 pm

For those interested, Anne Applebaum authored this article about Hirsi Ali, which, incidentally, accompanied Hitch's article on Slate.com

12. Teresa, Bright and Dark

Dare I say, no one could have made a better Devil's Advocate for Mama Teresa than Hitch; his argument cuts like a knife.

13. There is no God and Dawkins is his Prophet

"We should always be disposed to believe that that which appears white is really black, if the hierarchy of the Church so decides." Ignatius of Loyola, Spanish founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits - S.J.), Exercitia spirtualia, 1541.

In light of this, I am decidedly unimpressed with any of Padre Jonsson's, S.J. bleating on this subject. How someone could consign our greatest faculties, reason and skepticism, is beyond me.
