We can only imagine the, understandably, superstitious stories those people have developed by seeing aircraft and satellites overhead.
And yes, there are definatly religious people wondering how they can get in touch with these people and save thier souls.
This has been asked many times: what happened to all the people's souls in these tribes over the last thousands of years? They have never heard of Alla, or Christ. An answer that can never be rationaly explained.

I watched the Coral Ridge video... LAME. One guy based all Athiest on one he talked to. And, as RD says, the only reason they feel attacked is because people arn't used to religion being analized as it is these days.

Wow... the time is slowly coming that I thought would come. First, the Christians are slowly massing to verbally go to war. As WE become a more populated voice, and thier massive majority chips away, I predict they will become violent. That's what the fearful do when they get cornered.

Comment #77257 by Nazgul on October 8, 2007 at 10:03 pm
The way I look at it is like this: The hyphen or space was taken out of the word Athiest, I don't know when, but as far as the english language is concerned, it does not mean A - Thiest... without-God any longer. It has a new meaning now: rational thought. Not unlike the scarlet "A" means from this web site. If everyone could agree on one label, I think it would have more power. All this "Secular", "Humanist", "Agnostic" etc, is confusing. Yes, the unlearned person thinks Athiests believe in nothing, but as time passes, and more are educated, that will change. I understand Sam's argument, but an all-encompassing label, I think, is a positive one.

There seems to be something wierd going on. Most of these faith based people (Christians, Jews, Islamic), in my observations, gravitate towards conventinal medicines, and it seems the non-Abrihamic/new-aged people gravitate towards alternative medicines. Comments?

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death – Albert Einstein

[1. Tide Pools]
When the ebbing tide retreats
Along the rocky shoreline
It leaves a trail of tidal pools
In a short-lived galaxy
Each microcosmic planet
A complete society
A simple kind mirror
To reflect upon our own
All the busy little creatures
Chasing out their destinies
Living in their pools
They soon forget about the sea...
Wheels within wheels in a spiral array
A pattern so grand and complex
Time after time we lose sight of the way
Our causes can't see their effects

By that Karen Hunter saying (ON CNN) that Atheists believe in NOTHING was a low blow for us. As we all know, we believe in lots of things, just not things that have no rational evidence. She (Hunter) knows that we believe in more than nothing. She wanted to give false info... or she's just plain ignorant. If there had been any Atheist on that show, leveling the field, they would have looked like fools. By CNN not having an Atheist on the show was intolerance.

As far as me maybe being an Optimist, I just think that having a positive out-look about religion being diminished is better... especially on this site where some finatics may visit. If they read that WE even doubt our hopes, they may become more bias towards their faith.

To add to my comment above; Yes "brainwashing of children should be discouraged". But in a democratic society, this could be difficult. I think the best we can do about keeping children less programed is to attempt to keep it out of schools. But (I use that word a lot), we have to completely separate church and state. I just saw the movie "Jesus Camp"... scary. Ted Haggard (the Hypocrite) may have given the best warning in the movie: every two days an Evangelical church opens in the US... ahhhhhh!!!! And with that comes more "Jesus Camps, and Christain schools.

I've posted this idea in a few other areas, so I will repeate it here in response to Comment #15115 by Aussie, and Sam Harris waisting his time and talent.
Most believers may never be turned away from their irrational thoughts, because they have a defence mechanisim dubbed "Pride and Bias". When they read somthing on this site, or others, or talk to one of us, they, I believe, begin to see some light. BUT... their "Pride and Bias" always comes to the rescue. From what I can see, the believer converting to rational thought is few and far between. But, converting a few, is better than none. I think if Christainity had adopted meditaton as one of their creeds, I think it would never have spread the way it did, because through meditaion, Pride, Bias, EGO would diminish. Pride and Bias should be one of the areas of concentration on this site. If this idea could be Emphasized, maybe more belivers would be inclined to look inward and see what they refuse to see.
Can you imagine a beliver suddenly seeing that their is no God, then having to tell thier children that they were wrong, and maybe their spouse, and their co-workers that they argued with... and especially their religious circle of friends... tough to do when "Pride and Bias" exists.

Perfect responce from Mr. Dawkins. I think this could be a reminder for everyone. Spreading the word of rational thought to adults, may not be affecteve as we would like. Teens is were the real differance could be made; they are the potential next wave of rational thought. How to do this... well... there are many ways - let's use our imagination.

Bottom line: If we're nice about, like we've been for many decades now, it'll never go away. This MASS mind virus beleivers (faith-sufferers) have needs to be hit hard. Hitting the youth 'may' be one of the best ways. Adults that turn to athiesm, turn back to their faith a lot. Teach reason when their young. I agree that it's childish, but hay, so is believing in an invisible man.

I live in Kelowna BC, Canada. As far as I know, BC's, and maybe Canada's, only known bible belt. More churchs than gas stations here. And lots of Christain schools (that DO teach ID). Just because I was bored, I sent two of the Christain schools a link of Ken Millers lecture, with a question weather they taught ID. But I linked them to YouTube because if they came through here, there's no way they would watch it - sorry Richard.

If you can get by the opening prayer, and ignore Ken Miller's admission of being a thiest, this is an AWSOME lecture to watch (although I think that deep down, Mr. Miller is a cultural Catholic - closet Athiest). I thought I'd only watch a few minutes of it, but I sat throught the entire thing. I, as well as Mr. Miller, am amazed that the 2q gene discovery was not reported by the media very much. To me, that discover is paramount in convincing people of our common ansestry. Maybe that's why.. it's TOO big to report... ruffle to many feathers. I had to pause the show and take a breath about that... I had never heard it before. Also, the blood clotting aspect was good too. And his warning about a wedge driven between students and science. Lastly, it blows me away at how ID supporteds are straight faced Lairs!!!
