1. Logical Proof of the Existence of a Divine Creator, Why Atheism is Not Logically Sound

Comment #190835 by Null-T on June 9, 2008 at 5:07 pm

I stopped reading after the third paragraph. Is it just me or does the writing style make this article sound like it was written by a college freshman who tried to make it longer than it needs to be?

So when synthetic life is finally created, will humans create a book of holy texts for it?

A giant arachnid - if only Robert Heinlein was alive today to see this.

I wonder how fast this thing was. I doubt it was fast enough to pose much of a threat to any modern animals or am I wrong?

"Speaking of marketing, where do those slogans that appear on the church signs come from? There must be a source somewhere. How can so many clergy people be so clever?"

There are indeed agencies that sell these slogans to churches. That "sign broken" one seems to be especially popular since I've seen it personally in different parts of the country and it always seems to comes up on internet forums. Religion in the United States sometimes seems to be comercialized to the point of self ridicule. On of the most amusing experiences I had when I moved to America was seeing a church located in a strip mall next to a donut shop, an electronics store, and a dry cleaner's. I can imagine a shopping list someone from that neighborhood might make:
-drop off shirts for dry cleaning
-box of glazed donuts
-pack of AA batteries
-new telephone
-a doze of Jesus

7. Fox News Discussion on 'The Golden Compass'

"...ridiculous and stupid statement"

Nice to see FOX being fair and balanced as usual.

"science can't explain free will"

Really? Can religion? Let's see, a magical crybaby in the sky made man with free will and when man started acting in ways that upset the magical crybaby in the sky, man was punished. No, that certainly doesn't work for me.

As far as the film goes, I don't see why anyone is complaining. Do children really care what religion a fantasy movie is advocating? I certainly did not care about such things when I was a child. All I cared was about being entertained. But then again, I was born in an atheistic nation and despite my very religious great grandmother I always doubted the existance of god.

" Recently, after giving an assignment that required drawing lines, he realized that not a single student actually knew how to use a ruler."

I hope that this is an exaggeration. I'm having a hard time believing that anyone can actually be this stupid. No one ever taught me how to use a ruler since it is pretty much self explanatory.

Although perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. Back when I was in high school I sometimes attended after-school tutoring to get help with my calculus homework. One day I was sitting in the classroom and working on some problem when a girl that was sitting next to me asked me if she could borrow my calculator. I wasn't using it at the time so I gave it her. Ten or so minutes later she finished her assignment, returned the calculator, and left. The calculator was a TI-86 graphing calculator so when I turned it on to work on a problem I could see a few of the previous inputs on the screen. What I saw on the screen caused me to raise an eyebrow and chuckle nervously. She used a graphing calculator for the following:
3+5

4+7

9-6

How the hell does someone make it to high school (she was at least in tenth grade) and not know how to add and subtract single digits?
