How can a cat or a young child disbelieve in god without first knowing about god?
People (and cats) are not born athiests either.

Good grief darwin2 has taken control of this thread and it has nothing to do with the original topic! He offers nothing as proof, admits that, and then expects that we should have to prove him wrong. Let's get rid of him please.

chbg21808, i like your comment on empathy. I never hear anything about compasion and empathy molding our morals. We are able to put ourselves in other peoples positions and feel for them. Another thing that never seems to come up is children. When we have children we tend to be very protective of them. We choose to live in areas that are safe and they grow up to want the same things generally. Its just really easy for me to see why we have morals without having to have a god.

I'd love to know how he did those tricks without accomplices. Ideas anyone?

Bizarro, you need to realize that this an atheist forum and expect we are going to rant about Falwell. What would be really distasteful is if we searched out theist forums and ranted about Falwell there.

Man I love Rush's first album. 'In the mood' was one of the first guitar songs I learned. It's nice to see Neil Peart read The God Delusion.

10. Evolution Debate - Pigliucci vs Hovind
Comment #20334 by troyboy on February 1, 2007 at 10:30 pm
I have to agree that Dr. Pigliucci is not a very good debater. Granted I only listened to half of the debate before having to turn it off. I would have liked to hear him talk more about the many different carbon dating methods proving the age of earth is greater than 10,000 years old. I'd also like to know how fast "MR." Hovind thinks the speed of light is.
This is the first time I ever heard that evolution was a religion and shouldn't be taught in school. Has anyone ever heard of that arguement being taken to court?
11. Intelligent design is a science, not a faith

We know stonehenge is designed because rocks don't form that way naturally(Perhaps god created stonehenge?). With the vast size of the universe it is very probable to have at least one planet (Say Earth) :) that can sustain life that formed naturally and there are probably others.

paradigm667, From wikipedia:
Jehovah's Witnesses believe that only 144,000 people will receive the reward of eternal life in heaven with Jesus Christ. They believe that the wicked will be destroyed at Armageddon, and that the righteous will form a new society and live forever in an earthly paradise.
They also refuse blood transfusions. Pretty nutty eh?

It frustrates me that Rod Little doesn't make any distinction between believing in god vs. believing in the god of the bible.
I became an atheist after reading the bible. I could not beleive that God created the earth in 7 days. Why couldn't he do it in 1 day? The thought of Jesus being born to a virgin is crazy. An I especially don't believe god answers your prayers while letting thousands of children starve to death. etc.
The theory of evelution didn't even factor in.
15. When Atheists Have Their Say (5 Letters)
Comment #11603 by troyboy on December 5, 2006 at 10:47 pm
MNiT, you are better off ignoring David Mathews. He is a religious nut case who is incapable of seeing his delusion. You ask many 'how do you know?' questions which are all good questions and the best he can come up with is:
"Religion is a complicated subject even when you people handle it simplistically. I cannot possibly hope to teach people who are so devoted to their own ignorance. "
"The whole subject of existence is also a complicated subject which (as I have already demonstrated today) atheists have a difficult time handling. If you don't know why you exist how could you possibly attempt to understand how and why God exist? "
Well I guess he is right about not being able to teach people who are devoted to their own ignorance. David Mathews is certainly one of them. lol.
