I don't know why stories from the Daily Hate keep being posted here? Linda Ward Selbie certainly has easy access to whoever puts the articles up here. I tried several times, each time with an interesting Science article, and nothing. But she has lots of articles posted.

And anyway hasn't there been enough articles about muslims already? What more evidence do we need that their religion makes them do depraved things like the story of that teacher in Afghanistan whose limbs were pulled apart by being tied to motorcycles and whose crime was teaching to girls? There is lots more going on in this world and I'd certainly to read about it.

This kind of story is sure to bring out Fanusi and al-rawandi with their heard it all before old records.

I am optimistic that religion is on the way out. Ever since Darwin the percentage of atheists has been increasing and the trend is sure to continue with better education and with more people having access to it. So we or at least our grandchildren are likely to look back and see how humanity finally managed to break free from this insane delusion that had the planet in its grips for a few thousand years.

Whats wrong with plain old " religious " ? Why the neologism ? It ' ll just cause confusion . Call a spade a spade . We don ' t need new words when we already have words to express what we mean . There are plenty of words that do need inventing though . For example what do you call a single strand of spaghetti ?

This is bollocks!

"Wilson has tackled a perplexing question and come up with a persuasive preliminary answer to an evolutionary enigma: why do men submit to procedures that seem to reduce their fitness?"
Why do men submit...? Circumcision is done on young boys who don't have a say in the matter and if they did I'd bet they'd say no.

First, and in general, the resilience of the end-time forecasts - time and again, for 500 years, the date is proclaimed, nothing happens, and no one feels discouraged from setting another date.
This made me laugh!
Natural selection is a powerful, elegant, and economic explicator of life on earth in all its diversity, and perhaps it contains the seeds of a rival creation myth that would have the added power of being true - but it awaits its inspired synthesiser, its poet, its Milton.
For me Dawkins fits the bill.

Comment #176272 by Jiten on May 7, 2008 at 4:24 am

al-rawandi,with your tirade against Chomsky you are missing the point. The point being that his country does things that his fellow countrymen are ignorant of and which he wants to bring to their attention. These 'things' result in the deaths of innocent people the world over. The numbers are always disputed but isn't any number greater than 1 scandalous? Why do these innocent people have to die?
Other countries also do bad things that lead to the deaths of innocent people. He focuses on the US because that's 'his' country.

It makes me so angry that people are killed all over the world through no fault of their own.Shouldn't we try to organize society in a way that everyone can lead fulfilling lives free from terror?Instead of the way it is currently organized?Which is set up for the benefit of the few at the expense of the many.

Teratornis:

It is troubling that Sam and the other Horsemen tend to remain silent on the petroleum issue, perhaps because all of them are personally fond of petroleum-fueled jet travel. This is one of the most egregious forms of petroleum addiction, because the product being moved is nothing more than information, and information can travel cheaply in wires resulting in drastically lower donations to Middle Eastern oil barons. In the case of our Horsemen, this lapse is especially troubling because they are among the most intelligent living humans, and thus they are easily intelligent enough to master modern telecommunication technology sufficiently well to move their ideas without moving their bodies.
Well RD?Why do you do it? What Teratornis says makes a lot of sense.Keep plugging away!

I'm lost. Are you saying that there were other causes besides Islam, or are you ridiculing Ali's statement?
I'm saying the former. You have proximal causes and distal causes.I definitely agree that Islam is a proximal cause of these atrocities. It gets more complicated when we consider the distal causes,ie not the immediate causes.I mean why did they target the US? Why not New Zealand or Belgium? There's got to be other factors contributing to the mix of causes.
In such a complicated a thing as human interaction don't you think it makes more sense to look for a multi-causal explanation rather than a mono-causal explanation?

The worst of the worst of these "just missed the 60's" crowd come here and post their communist drivel, constantly referring to some metaphysical, eutopian reality, where sunshine and raimbows shine down on the overall clad proletariat.
This is just pointless point scoring.I'm not going to go on and on here trying to persuade you that you've got it all wrong.Even your charaterisation of those who want dignity and justice for all humans is a parody. What is worse is that it is a parody based on ignorance.Nothing seems to be going in.None are so blind as those who can't see what is right in front of them.

As for keith, don't be surprised to learn that he may be more sympathetic to the left that you think, although I'll let him speak for himself-something he's supremely good at.

31. Anti-Evolution Film Misappropriates the Holocaust

Comment #174339 by Jiten on May 2, 2008 at 7:46 am

al-rawandi:

I don't understand it. These Chomskian ideologues are incapable of doing anything but flogging their own collective backs. They can't bring themselves to even admit that Islam is a violent ideology, they can only blame the WTO and World Bank for 9/11 (despite the fact Bin Laden doesn't really talk about these two).
Name calling doesn't win arguments.Evidence does.Islam is a violent ideology but not every muslim is violent as you yourself know some muslims who have never beaten their wives.People cherry pick their holy books.500 years ago you could've said Christianity was a violent ideology, what with the witch burnings and the Inquisition and the Crusades. But look at it now.
Islam is not the cause of terrorism but a contributory factor.Look at the US.It is not Islamic yet is a major terrorist state. What is the cause of this terrorism?A question rarely asked.Only answers to the other guy's terrorism are sought.

A lot of posts while I've been away! Just got back from a cello and piano recital.

Well,al-rawandi,you attack the cartoon version of socialism. You seem to be obsessed with state-ownership.Why? Why do you think the opposite to capitalism is state-ownership? Firstly think no states at all.The state is an artificial creation and we'll just do away with it.Freedom for people to move around,no borders. After all today Capital freely moves around the world but borders exist only for people.

Secondly, think of a society based on co-operation not competition.

As for motivation or lack of,what about 10,000 years ago for example? Humans are curious animals and they will be and are motivated by curiosity."Let's see what happens if I do this.."

What we're talking about is a complete revolution in how society is arranged not a modification or tinkering with the current world system.Chavez,Castro are just tinkerers. They do not represent a just society.

37. How to reconcile Richard Dawkins?

Comment #172399 by Jiten on April 29, 2008 at 2:19 pm

People often confuse what went on in the old Soviet bloc with what Marx wrote. So they reject Marx because they reject "communism".There are many myths associated with socialism. For example "command economy".Well what do you call the economy when nations go to war?The war economy? Is that not a command economy?

Dawkins would do well if he paid more attention to Chomsky. Then he wouldn't appear so nice in person and could be the same as he is in print;there wouldn't be two Dawkinses then.

As Dawkins himself has asked somewhere, what is the difference between practicing 8 hours a day to be a good concert pianist and genetically modifying for musical ability?(Dawkins might have used another example, and put it better than me!)
