2. Don't blame Islam for terrorism, expert says

Comment #130968 by js5535 on February 21, 2008 at 3:24 pm

How many times do we have to hear this? Hitler, Leopold(!?), and Mussolini (a convert from atheism) were theists. Mao took inspiration from a Christian rebellion in China which killed 20-30 million people about a century earlier (See Taiping Rebellion), and Lenin and Stalin WERE gods.

3. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc. were atheists, and they were terrible! Answer that!

Comment #106429 by js5535 on January 2, 2008 at 10:57 pm

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Hitler

Search (Ctrl+f) for references to God. Hitler at least claimed to be a fervent believer, probably even something of a creationist, right to 1945.

Example,
"importance of conserving the blood and the race free from intermixture and thereby the racial aspect and character which are God's gift and God's handiwork. It is not for men to discuss the question of why Providence created different races..."
-Speech before the Reichstag, 30 January 1937

4. An Open Letter to Richard Dawkins

Comment #96680 by js5535 on December 10, 2007 at 8:23 pm

This little prepubescent Dinesh D'Souza clone is flat-out lying in regards to Hitler. He must know this, I do not doubt that he has at least seen the often quoted Mein Kampf remarks, as well as later comments.

I think Dawkins can apologize for the horrors of Marxism when the Pope apologizes for the horrors of say, the Mongol Conquests. After all, all theists must be blamed for the actions of all other theists, and Genghis Khan was rather devout. Theism can be blamed for every non-communist war, atrocity, or genocide in history. Is this not what he is suggesting?

5. Evolution to be taught in SA schools

Comment #82925 by js5535 on October 28, 2007 at 9:25 am

"This offended some black teachers. They said that evolution was a racist theory. It "terribly undermines black people, everything bad gets a black colour. It means blacks were apes," they said."

It means they are apes, just like the rest of us, and if diversity is of any value, Africans win.

Do they remember who the chief supporters of apartheid were? Conservative Christians, and it was based on Calvinist Elect theology.
I didn't know this pathetic ignorance existed there. You'd think teachers would have some better idea of evolution, considering that South Africa and it's neighbors are a major source of early human fossils, and a proper understanding of evolution defeats any racist notions.

"I am disappointed about the fact that evolution attacks God's creation. It also mixes Genesis with idol worshippers of Babylon, which were never there when God created planet Earth."

This should be on FSTDT.

6. Scientists Feel Miscast in Film on Life's Origin

Comment #74191 by js5535 on September 27, 2007 at 3:45 pm

"If it were up to him, he said, the film would be called "From Darwin to Hitler.""

"My feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter."

-Adolf Hitler

And this organization tries to pass itself off as a leader in human rights...

I guess sex is worse than death to these elderly virgins.

8. Griffin's 'offensive' Emmy speech to be censored

Wasn't the Catholic League a military alliance from the 30 Years War?

9. Arrogance, dogma and why science - not faith - is the new enemy of reason

Comment #61964 by js5535 on August 7, 2007 at 3:40 pm

"The Bible provides a picture of a rational Creator and an orderly universe - which, accordingly, provided the template for the exercise of reason and the development of science."
Of course, that's why science and philosophy flourished between Constantine and the Renaissance!
"The most conspicuous example of this is provided by Dawkins himself, who breaks the rules of scientific evidence by seeking to claim that Darwin's theory of evolution - which sought to explain how complex organisms evolved through random natural selection - also accounts for the origin of life itself."
Is it just me, or do "random" and "selection" have OPPOSITE MEANINGS? And when did Dawkins claim that abiogenesis is evolution?
"Indeed, if the origin of life were truly spontaneous, this would constitute what religious people would call a miracle. Accordingly, this claim in itself resembles not so much science as the superstition that Dawkins derides."
This must be the worst article I've read this year.
Her wiki article,

Apparently "Vox Day" is some sort of video game designer and Southern Baptist. I doubt his book has much substance.

11. Rapture Ready: The Unauthorized Christians United for Israel Tour

Comment #59205 by js5535 on July 28, 2007 at 9:03 am

Perhaps Christopher Hitchens is not so extreme in saying that humanity is under imminent threat from opposing religious views?
With Iran and Islamic-revolutionary infested Pakistan both possessing or close to possessing nuclear weapons, things aren't looking good.

At least these nutcase Republicans will be out in a year and a half.

That crazy adventure that Moses and friends allegedly had in the Sinai has probably been the source of as much destruction as smallpox.

12. The hitch in Hitchens' thinking

13. A force for good?

Comment #55058 by js5535 on July 9, 2007 at 10:59 pm

"Nazism murdered 15 million, Soviet Communism had between 9 and 60 million victims, Maoism killed an estimated 30-40 million. Atheistic totalitarianism has perpetrated more mass murder than any state dominated by a religious faith."

For the ten millionth fucking time, Hitler and the majority of Nazis were NOT atheists. They even wore shinny belt buckles that said "Gott Mit Uns". How many times do historical facts have to be pounded into the minds of the faithful before they get it? Fascism was by and large supported by Catholicism in Spain, Germany, and the Balkans, and many Protestant Churches had little quarrel with Hitler. The Holocaust was the climax of centuries of ethnic hatred that had been fed by religion.

14. Christopher Hitchens and Al Sharpton

Comment #53310 by js5535 on June 30, 2007 at 5:59 pm

Hitchens is doing well, but he needs to brush up a little on astronomy and theoretical cosmology in order to give better answers on the origin of the universe itself. Another good argument would be to talk about how hostile, empty, cold, and obviously purposeless almost all of the universe is.

"Miracle of childbirth"
As in a screaming bloody infant painfully squeezing out of a woman's vagina, followed by a fleshy placenta? That has divine fingerprints all over it.

The discovery that there are many faiths other than their parents' is probably the most damaging thing that can happen to a child's religion.

18. What I Think About Evolution

Comment #46553 by js5535 on May 31, 2007 at 4:04 pm
Biologists will have their debates about man's origins, but people of faith can also bring a great deal to the table.
Yes, we should invite Norse neo-pagans from Iceland to 'the table'. I'm sure their creation myths are wonderful too.
Aspects of these theories that undermine this truth, however, should be firmly rejected as an atheistic theology posing as science.
Kind of like the way Galileo contradicted the Book of Joshua.

This mans unwavering faith is disgusting, and dangerous. He has even stated that his views will not change, no matter what the evidence. No doubt everything in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and astronomy that is not in line with his beliefs becomes part of the evil atheist conspiracy.

I definitely recommend some of the videos on this website. Its absolutely amazing to see just how intelligent our fellow ape species are. I haven't seen Chimpanzee or Orangutan understanding and communication this advanced before.

20. Group Threatens to Sue Pentagon Over Military Role in Evangelical Festival

Comment #45314 by js5535 on May 27, 2007 at 6:49 am

On this morning's religious specials on TV, there were numerous high ranking military officials in attendance, such as the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Myers. It seems the US military is on a slippery slope to Evangelical rule. Imagine, the army of the world's only superpower being controlled by rapture obsessed theocratic fundies. It's a scary thought indeed.

22. World's most prominent atheist takes on the Biblical God (and other topics)

Comment #39444 by js5535 on May 10, 2007 at 4:37 pm

Those were not the last words of Voltaire, Oliver Cromwell was a devout Christian, and I cannot find any source that agrees with the words they attributed to Paine. Most of the remainder of the video is consumed by those crackpots praising the Good LORD Jesus Christ. I think Jack and his partner/wife are going senile in their old age.

23. Convention ends with Satan and immigrants

I really thought that article was a parody for a little while.

24. Mormonism: A Racket Becomes a Religion

Comment #35992 by js5535 on April 29, 2007 at 7:34 pm

In my experience Mormons have generally been nice people, although many are still very racist. Dumb as a wall too. As that excerpt clearly demonstrates, Joseph Smith was a complete fraud, much like Muhammad. That should be clear to anyone not raised in those religions.

25. New Noah's Ark ready to sail

Comment #35758 by js5535 on April 28, 2007 at 7:41 pm

"The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was thrown open Saturday -- you could say it was the first time in 4,000 years -- drawing a crowd of curious pilgrims and townsfolk to behold the wonder."

Indeed you could say that, if you were an idiot.

Yes I get sick of the rabid hockey fanaticism up here. Most people put hockey light-years ahead of any intellectual pursuit. The sterotypes of Canadians are sadly often correct.

32. Comment #34650 by Norseman on April 24, 2007 at 7:06 pm

27. Vote for the Time 100 - Are They Worthy?

Comment #34616 by js5535 on April 24, 2007 at 5:38 pm

It really is depressing to see an inconsequential hockey player at number 4. Well at least Paris Hilton is at the bottom!

All the best to Dawkins!

28. Dinesh D'Souza says I don't exist: an atheist at Virginia Tech

Comment #33309 by js5535 on April 19, 2007 at 8:37 pm

I hope D'Souza reads this and feels some stain on his conscience after that idiotic article of his. If he has any true sense of compassion he will apologize.
Neither atheists nor theists should use tragic events in which mental illness is clearly to blame for their own agendas.

29. Sam's Flea!

Comment #32930 by js5535 on April 18, 2007 at 6:24 pm

"There are, as you point out, over 350,000 species of beetles...I think it is the coolest thing in the world that our God created that many different kinds of beetles."

Imagine watching over all of them for several months (weeks?) in a boat with a staff of eight and a few million other species x2...

I wonder if he addresses the ludicrously of the Ark in his book?

32. John Paul Sainthood Nun 'Gentle, Simple'

34. Atheist Apostle

Comment #24458 by js5535 on March 6, 2007 at 6:35 pm

Typical theist argument. "Stalin and Mao were atheists, ergo atheism is bad." Perhaps he should look at the statictics, like maybe the miniscule atheist prison population.

35. James Cameron finds grave of Jesus & Son

Comment #23201 by js5535 on February 26, 2007 at 6:29 pm

A sample of Joseph's DNA would be quite useful right now. It would prove or disprove paternity. I wonder what the chances are of a viable source ever being found.

It's awful that some hyper-Conservative Jewish group got their hands on the alleged Jesus Family's bones.

36. The questions science cannot answer

37. Atheism, not religion, is the real force behind the mass murders of history

Comment #18721 by js5535 on January 22, 2007 at 4:13 pm

What an awful article-clearly the author is lacking much knowledge of history and did not read the entire book (The God Delusion).

For one, Hitler once launched an "anti-Godless" movement. Throughout European history of the Christian age, Jews were also continually slaughtered.

I could come up with a number far higher for the 'number religious people have killed' than the 'number atheists have killed'. It would be a lot higher than 100 million on the religious side. That would be awful logic though.
