1. Pastor Rick's Test

The "forum" was pretty awful. Like the article said, it did little to sway any voters in either direction, it merely showed that both Obama and McCain are willing to do whatever it takes to win the presidency. I wish Obama could have blown it off and pointed out that this breach of seperation of church and state has no place in America, but that more than likely would have lost him the presidency. I fear that as long as faith and religious figures are prominent in American society, we are doomed to suffer through this dribble to get an ally in office.

2. Pastors Challenge Law, Endorse Candidates From Pulpit

I'm sorry to say that I'm actually from that small town in Minnesota. However, it was religious crazys like this guy that helped to push my questioning belief over to complete disbelief.

The really awful thing about this guy is that the local paper has several columns written by Booth and other local pastors and priests where they can continue to spout their religious nonsense to a larger "congregation" (I wish the paper had an online version to provide for you, but its too small), which I'm sure this week he's written about his "mission from God". And then when/if the IRS smokes his ass, it will be another case of "god working in mysterious ways".

Although I couldn't provide a website for the paper, I found the editor's email and I'd love for everybody just to send a little note telling them how awful it is to provide print space for such nonsense. Thanks in advance! Here it is: wpioneer@wiktel.com

3. Put a Little Science in Your Life

Comment #187317 by mada2002 on June 1, 2008 at 11:03 pm

It is a shame that more people don't appreciate science for the mind-altering substance that it is.(or perhaps thats why they don't appreciate it?) I was fortunate enough to have several science teachers through middle and high school that revealed the greatness of science and the explanations for the world around us. Its very true though that without the proper introduction to science it can seem very cold and distant when focusing on the technical side. Its just like music, I wouldn't have stuck with it if they wouldn't have let me play the fun stuff. Hooray Science! And Hooray for Mr. Strand and Ms. Berglund!

4. Kenya mob reportedly burns 11 'witches'

Comment #183619 by mada2002 on May 22, 2008 at 11:27 am

This is so similar to that story a few weeks ago about "suspected witches" making guys' dicks smaller, and everyone panicking and running around in gangs. How stupid. What makes it even more stupid is that they believe these people are witches, but attack them anyway. I'm sure that they believe the fact that they survived attacking the witches is owed to the devine protection of their god(s). What can you do with that kind of thinking (or lack thereof)?

5. God and Science Collide in Nation's Capital

"In other words, he suggests that we can get around the divide between science and God if we come up with a new concept for God that focuses on the wonders of nature "

The fact that these people think we are against their belief in god is troubling. If all their belief in god did was make them appreciate the wonders of nature I don't think any of us would have a problem. But when they start using god as their reason to stifle needed change (abortion rights, civil liberties, stem cell research, etc..., etc....) then we have problem!

6. It was a bad year for God.

AndreG,

I don't think any of us shake our fists against God. To put it in Hitchens' words, that would be absurd. But we do shake our fists at those who do believe and wish to force their beliefs upon us.

7. Richard Dawkins on 'Have Your Say'

Comment #104883 by mada2002 on December 29, 2007 at 9:55 pm

Its almost sad to see the priest smirk at the end of his bit like he won the arguement. Some people are too far gone to save. Its also sad that he uses the same "religion is not alone in its badness" arguement, the same as he has used on FoxNews. Completely skips over the science to issues that are covered in history books.

8. If You Open Your Mind Too Much Your Brain Will Fall Out

It seems to me that the comedian used those words as another part of his joke. Of course he wouldn't actually GIVE anybody his wife as she is not his to own in the first place. It just fits nicely with the rest of the song making fun of other "outdated" ideas. Nothing more.
