1. Sarcasm Seen as Evolutionary Survival Skill

Comment #199443 by Dutchie on June 25, 2008 at 7:09 pm

. . . Which of course explains why atheists are thriving and theists are steadily dying out :D.

2. Band T-shirt draws charge

Comment #199441 by Dutchie on June 25, 2008 at 7:06 pm

I think it should be banned - not because of its religious content, but because of a certain four letter word on it; that's the problem here.

If said word was to be replaced with something less obscene (but still as offensive to theists) I wouldn't mind. In fact, I'd love it :D.

But you can't walk around town with the word "CUNT" plastered across your chest!

3. The Flea Delusion

Comment #199438 by Dutchie on June 25, 2008 at 7:02 pm

So, is this "The Delusion Delusion" for or against us?

Hmm, I smell Poe :D.

4. Town moves against Islamic school

Comment #185065 by Dutchie on May 26, 2008 at 8:36 pm

I meant that to prevent an Islamic school from being built isn't racism per se, even if the motives were racist, since they don't affect the outcome, per se.

And I am concorned about religious extremism in Jewish, Christian schools, etc.

5. Town moves against Islamic school

Comment #185063 by Dutchie on May 26, 2008 at 8:27 pm

How is this racist? Could someone pleae tell me? I mean, Islam is a religion, not a race or ethnic group, after all.

I can see, though, that there are no doubt racist motivations behind the demonstration (at least, for some of the people).

But, they don't really affect the outcome - all it means, regardless of motives, is that the faith-based school is not built.

I will be joining this protest, but because:

1. Faith based schools promote segregation and brainwashing of children;

2. Islamic schools (specifically) will always be potential extremist hotspots.

If they can't tell the difference between what an Arab (ethnic group) and a Muslim (religion) is, that isn't my problem.

They should be protesting about the faith based school - and I'm sure the atheists that are there probably are.

Here's hoping they do the same next time a Christian group want to build a school.

Again, I will join this protest to help stop islamic extremism.

Anyone else?

EDIT 1: Hungarianelephan in comment 11 speaks the truth.

EDIT 2: The protest already happened? Bugger. Didn't know!

EDIT 3: And the school's application was refused. Score 1 for the rational people in Camden (even if they are racist bastards, because their xenophobic motives don't really affect the outcome or procedure, do they?).

6. Beware the Believers

Comment #151998 by Dutchie on March 30, 2008 at 12:07 am

Sorry about the double post, but I just noticed Wallace's latest offering to the fountain of idiocy.

I think I'll respond on his level; it's appropriate, because he'll understand:

Ahem . . .

"Wallace, this shizzle ain't funny, yo yo yo./
Stop posting drivel or GTFO."

7. Beware the Believers

Comment #151997 by Dutchie on March 30, 2008 at 12:02 am

Erm, LOL?

This is confusing, but to me it seems reminiscent of the 'infamous' "Can-Can" animation by the idiots behind "Expelled".

I would probably have to say it's a satire of the real scientists by the ID proponents, Professor, but I'm as confused as you are.

Either way, I think it's pathetic.

8. Happy Birthday, Richard Dawkins!

Comment #150561 by Dutchie on March 27, 2008 at 5:33 am

Happy birthday, Professor!

And good luck with your next book!

9. EXPELLED!

Comment #147601 by Dutchie on March 21, 2008 at 12:21 am

Irony; it's a wonderful thing, isn't it?

I'm confused as to why a tax-funded policemen is being used as private security? Can't they pay for their own darn security?

This is a wonderful thing to hear, and I plan on actually contacting those responsible for Expelled to tell them. I can't wait to hear their reaction.

And this begs the question: Professor Dawkins, how was the movie?

10. In Britain, creationist theory is evolving

Comment #144970 by Dutchie on March 17, 2008 at 5:47 am

I tell you, if this ever happens, I will find and egg the MP or Lord and all others responsible for this setback of the British Education System and progress of British science.

Good God, sometimes these people deserve it.

It is time we started some sort of protest movement. Agreed?

11. 'Anonymous' takes anti-Scientology to the streets

Comment #144966 by Dutchie on March 17, 2008 at 5:41 am

defa: Interesting point! However, you mean "the beliefs of Christians or Muslims are no LESS irrational than those of Scientology."!

Y'know, I suppose that we could quantify Scientology as more ridiculous than say, Islam, because there is always the slight chance that those religions are right, however slim. But with Scientology, the fact that it is pure sci-fi, by a sci-fi author, makes it even more ridiculous to believe - it is obviously, unquestionably, made up, even to a theist.

I hope this continues - will there be any chance of atheist/freethinker groups joining the next protest (April 12th)?

The UQ Secular Freethinkers Society are apparently going along, Australians.

I am not in favour of the "hacktivism" they untdertake, but the 'Church' of Scientology deserve it as a poetic punishmet for suppressing free speech.

They now plan to apparently not mass-fax or mass-email obscene images, black paper, etc. etc., but now materials from the 'Church' that the leaders do not want the rank-and-file believers to see.

12. A New Pope

Comment #139850 by Dutchie on March 6, 2008 at 2:54 pm

It shocks and disgusts me to think that the major world leaders fawn over the Pope. Why!?!?

WHY allow this idiot with no political experience to influence politics everywhere (he could command Catholics in Country X to have Leader Y impeached).

Jack Chick (another Grade A loon) argued that the Pope secretly controls all the World Governments as part of his plan to rule the world (he's the AntiChrist, don't you know). Could he be right?

13. God, power and money

Comment #139071 by Dutchie on March 5, 2008 at 5:19 am

Sickening to read that the poor boy wasn't healed at all (because Hinn is a con), despite Hinn getting his father's hopes up.

If you watch some of his 'healing' sessions carefully, you'll notice that the people are actually being HELPED back up and cannto move on their own.

So what happened? Was Hinn getting the idea that Toohey was a fake and acted his 'healing powers' to shut him up?

Really, Benny Hinn (more like Benny Bloody Hill) has to be exposed for the fraud he is. Perhaps that group, "Anonymous", could step in.

Maybe they could sow the seed until it multiplies (as they say) over 9000?

14. Bulldozers tear down giant religious teapot

Comment #139058 by Dutchie on March 5, 2008 at 5:04 am

We all know the truth, now: Bertrand Russell was prophetic.

Very amusing, although something intrigues me: why has the columnist used the phrase "Muslim, Chinese and Indian Malaysians", referring to Islam as a race? I mean, it's a religious group; that doesn't make sense.

15. Dusty Clues: Study suggests no dearth of Earths

Comment #127037 by Dutchie on February 14, 2008 at 6:10 pm

Laurie Fraiser: Or the millions of Tom Cruises! Think about it - all those copyright claims on Youtube, all those South Park episodes, a whole chorus of (rightfully angry) John Sweeneys, and a mass genocide of couches on talkshows . . . cue The Twilight Zone theme!

And, GBile: All those Holy Books . . . I can imagine the headlines now:

CONTACT WITH ALIENS MADE. COVENANT OF RELIGIOUS E.T. FACTIONS DECLARE JIHAD ON HERETIC HUMANS.

In all seriousness, it has been a great year for science: the discovery of the newborn planet on 3 January, the discovery of Gliese 581c AND d (what are the porbabilities of TWO earthlike planets formingtogether?), the discovery of bacteria able to survive Venusian temperatures - wow.

This is just another wonderful discovery. It's all happened at the samee time, as if it was meant to. Divine intervention, perhaps . . . ?

16. Pleas for condemned Saudi 'witch'

Comment #127033 by Dutchie on February 14, 2008 at 5:54 pm

And these people are considered moderate? respectable? our allies?

Rubbish.

Al-Qaeda gets its funding from the Saudis, and how do they get that? Every time we pick up the pump. In my opinion, we need to get back to using our own oil - it's cheaper (less transportation), requires no shipping clearance, and is easier to get on demand. This whole affair with Saudi that the West has been engaged in for fifty years is an example of how much influence religion can be.

It affects human rights, governmental affairs, internation issues, and in this case the economy of half the world.

I for one am sick and tired of greedy Saudi oil tycoons (and their wallets) growing fat on the work of others, then using their influence on the aristo- and theo-cratic government to suppress the basic rights of the common folk. They supply funding for the government in return for power, and the government use the money to fund religious police and terrorist groups.

We need to stop picking up the pump. Now.

17. Charles Simonyi Professorship in the Public Understanding of Science

Comment #125534 by Dutchie on February 11, 2008 at 2:42 pm

It's a shame to see such a valued member of the academic community leave. Of course, as the Professor said, he'll have more time to be shrill and strident.

Here's hoping we see more 'vicious tirades' from you!

All the best, Professor.

18. The Passion of 'Anonymous'

Comment #124979 by Dutchie on February 10, 2008 at 2:56 pm

It seems that, although Anonymous (who are representative of society in GENERAL) are the latest thorn in the side of the Church of Scientology, they are also the largest and will be there for a long time (they have a Long Term Strategy).

For laughs, look at this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4BQdr0kHK8

The spokesperson for the Birmingham branch of Scientology has branded Anonymous a terrorist organisation!

They are working with the police to stop this, apparaently, which of course means blackmailing the Chief of the Metropolitan Police and threatening to sue the BBC (they stole one youth's camera phone).

They have also claimed Anonymous sent white packets of powder to them as an anthrax scare (Florida). The FBI concluded it to be a hoax. Scientologist trick to gain sympathy, perhaps?

Now, every time they try to suppress information about themselves and their procedures, it will just ever more reveal them to be dangerous and secretive, as they are now out in the open for all to see.

19. Submission, 'Part 1'

Comment #105957 by Dutchie on January 2, 2008 at 8:07 am

My petition comment was as follows:

"It's terrible, absolutely terrible, brothers and cattle (er, I mean sisters), that we have to put up with this. In fact, let's go even further and ban all medical imagery and diagrams of people and animals; after all, this is only going to affect any area of science that uses such principles: zoology, biology, medicine . . . but it doesn't matter if we live in the Stone Age; we've been doing that as it is, what with our oppression of women and gays (simply for having a private life) and insisting on special rules for ourselves while blowing people up at the same time. Mohammed, police be upon him, really is loving, isn't he?"

Made a fake address for obvious reasons.

20. Creationists plan British theme park

Comment #99804 by Dutchie on December 17, 2007 at 3:07 pm

As long as it isn't funded by taxpayers' money (which is already being squandered on so-called supernatural remedies), I frankly don't care.

So, this begs the question: how exactly would we go about preventing this from becoming a Government-funded promotion for "diversity"?

21. Creationists plan British theme park

Comment #99471 by Dutchie on December 16, 2007 at 6:03 pm

This is, from a financial point of view, disgusting.

If Vardy is a backer, then no doubt some of his money is that left over from the funds given to him by New Labour in order to fund Creation Lience.

In other words, taxpayers' money is being used to fund scientific lies - and worse, in a private, non-Gvt. enterprise.

Worse, they are after DIRECT funding from the British Government and the European Governments too.

We need to contact the EU forewarning them of this (preferably with an attached petition). Does anyone know how to directly contact the EU? What is the relevant office in this case?
