"To get back to my original criticism, I do see some xenophobic undertones in the statments some people make on this site. It makes me think what else is behind it. That is all. "

Islam is NOT a race!

"Translated into English, what the male is saying is, `Look how powerful a male I am, because I can afford to wear my balls outside my body, in the most vulnerable position. You'd better not mess with me because I am proving my strength and my ability as a fighter.'

JL: That's a sad thought, that advertising might overpower common sense, because of a universal mathematical principle. "

Now THAT is funny.

"The fundies, highly deluded though they are, at least have what they regard to be evidence for their beliefs; i.e. the bible."

And the Pastafarians (Church of the flying spaghetti monster) have this: http://www.amazon.com/Gospel-Flying-Spaghetti-Monster/dp/B000M9PITC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=miscellaneous&qid=1206445673&sr=8-3

12. Why do we believe in God? 2m study prays for answer

Comment #129668 by Ned Flanders on February 19, 2008 at 12:46 pm

The question "why we believe in god" is not as important as "why we STILL believe in god'.

This is certainly going to hand the theists some kind of a win in the form of the "default position is to believe" vein - we believe therefore it must be true. Why, of course.

13. Some non-Christians feel left out of election

@ Laurie

Yes, we have it pretty good here. You get the odd loony rave from the catholic league (Abbot etc) but they are put in their place very quickly. I would say Abbot's catholicism cost him the chance for leadership of his party. It was very christian and charitable of him to object to the recent proposal to apologise for the stolen generation, wasn't it?

Looking at the USA from our perspective is a mix of curiosity and alarm. But I guess when you have such an insular society and culture that's what you get.

Fundamentalist religionists rely on logic (good or bad), yet dismiss their own need to justify their beliefs as beyond logic. Somehow magically stepping in and out of what Wittgenstein called the limits of language. It's like they walk with a crutch, but claim they don't need it. It really is baffling how the minds of these people works - a virus is almost the perfect analogy.

And then they accuse atheists of suffering from the same ailment: "I may walk with a stick but you have a limp".

17. Heath Ledger Death: Baptist Group To Protest At Memorial

Comment #115744 by Ned Flanders on January 24, 2008 at 3:30 pm

These people are cowards. They target gays because they can get away with it. Sadly, this kind of vilification is permissible, yet if it were racial they'd be locked up.

I get the feeling the leader of these whackjobs has some unresolved homosexual issues, typically expressing itself as a reaction against those feelings.

What I don;t get, is how publicly stating these kinds of warped beliefs is not classified as hate speech. Surely condemning someone to hell for eternity, and wishing them dead is serious vilification upon a large group of the population?

What a pack of fucking degenerates. These people need to be locked up in the animal shelter.
