1. Texas State Board of Education approves Bible course for high schools

Comment #213587 by Star Spangled Eagle on July 18, 2008 at 3:56 pm

Hey Texas:

If other religious books are not being taught as
electives, why not? I'd like you to answer that one for me.

I love the idea of comparative religion to be taught in high school, why should only one "holy book" course be available to students? I thought we're trying to expand young people's minds...

Unless of course that's a tofu dog and a wine cooler...

Your Americanness is in question ;)

Just to add to the "where you were on 9-11"

I also was attending college (in Long Island, NY), in my 2nd year and the first class I had in the morning was taught by a professor who lived a few blocks away from "ground zero." The news was about an hour old and I believe at least the first tower had fallen already. I walked into class and the poor woman couldn't control herself; the 30 minutes we spent in class was of her sobbing, it was pretty depressing, then, they obviously cancelled classes.

My girlfriend at the time was going to school at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in Chelsea (NYC, not too far north of the financial district) and I remember not being able to reach her. Even though she was at least 20 blocks away, I was still so nervous about her whereabouts. When I finally reached her, she told me how she not only heard the impact but felt it. Shit, that was a scary day.

I just noticed that I was BANNED AGAIN.

Comment #190685 by Star Spangled Eagle on June 9, 2008 at 11:31 am

but I do wonder what political motive there is for revealing it now.

They're losing ground and they are desperate, making the last attempts to make a legitimate case before all hope is vanquished.

EDIT: By the way, I use the term "legitmate case" very loosely.

12. Logical Proof of the Existence of a Divine Creator, Why Atheism is Not Logically Sound

Comment #190676 by Star Spangled Eagle on June 9, 2008 at 11:13 am

They got the title wrong, some better choices would be:

Logical Proof of the Existence of a Mediocre Creator, Why Atheism ownz us noobs.

Logical Proof of the Existence of Thor's hammer up my ass, Why Atheism hurts so much less.

Logical Proof of the Existence of Spirits, slew of ghost hunting programs prove atheists wrong.

Logical Proof that I can't actually understand what logical proof means, see mangled words below.

Logical Proof of the Existence of a La La La La La Loo Loo Loo Loo La. Atheists are so stupid.

Logical Proof of the Existence of a Magical Teapot in orbit, Why tea sounds awfully good right now.

(Edit) I'm sure there are many other possibilities.

13. John McCain: America a Christian nation, needs Christian president

Comment #190183 by Star Spangled Eagle on June 8, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Why is no one commenting on the shitty quality of this video? The abrupt cuts are really annoying, did someone make this in their basement? You don't have a clue what actual questions are being asked, you don't hear the interviewer, some of the things McCain says could be looked at differently if the editing was a bit less "misleading"

Although McCain's comments are not surprising, I think the jumping to anger -yawn- here is not very constructive. Come on, it's no surprise, I mean he's the presumed Republican nominee for president. I'm not making excuses for him but be rational here, what the heck did you expect?

Comment #185648 by Star Spangled Eagle on May 28, 2008 at 9:01 am

Hey al,

Those were some scary clips. It's interesting how the media here in the west hardly ever shows videos like that. You'll hear about them occasionally, but for the most part, you see only bad things happening to Israelis. I've tried for a long time to remember, concerning conflicts, wars and battles of ideologies, that nothing is simple and when looking at the whole picture, it can be even more grim.

What's wrong with all you religious people?

clearmind:

I like you. You're so inspirational to the relentless. Even though I disagree with you on all counts, you'd be a great person to have on your side in a barfight. The fight would be over and you still would be throwing pint glasses at the wall and breaking bar stools. You're relentless, I hope you don't just limit that skill to a posts on message board that don't acomplish anything. That would truly be sad. Good job.

Edit: Sorry everyone, I really don't have anything intelligent to add, I'm just frustrated and really don't give a shit anymore.

Matt7895:
I did not bring it up, but you made an obscure reference to it:

I tend to think 'reason' as applying to peace treaties and agreements, not wars fought over tea.

No need for the condescending remarks by the way ("humor me, just this once") I am familiar with American history which is why I asked why you said it was a war over tea. It wasn't, and I first asked you to dust off the history book to take a look and read a little bit.

If you think the American Revolutionary war was just "fought over tea" you'll need do a tiny bit more research.

probably the same reason they allow users to write historically inaccurate statements about the past.

I wasn't aware that was a "derogatory slur"

Comment #177466 by Star Spangled Eagle on May 9, 2008 at 6:22 am

With this whole Expelled fiasco and their use of Hitler as well it just seems that everyone uses it, but I guess you're right Diacanu, the name is handy and people can understand right away who you're talking about.

I just think that stoopid people may use this againt Richard in a way that isn't fair to the type of person he is and the point he was actually making.

42. My Response to Rabbi Shmuley Boteach

Comment #177459 by Star Spangled Eagle on May 9, 2008 at 6:08 am

While I agree with Richard on his reasoning, I just think that the "Hitler" comparisons on any level are way too played out and overused.

It seems like people throw that name out all the time now, everyone is reminded of Hitler when they see something bad. Many other shmucks yell and scream to assist them in "making a point" especially when their reasoning is flawed.

Whatever the case may be, It was a good point, I just think that other names could have been used: shrieking like a banshee is my personal favorite.

I am making fun of the name because he/she has been going around for a while now denying the holocaust, consistanly; it's rather disgusting.
