Where has that video come from that Dawkins plays during his speech? The one where he tells McGrath to EFFF OFF!
I've never seen it before and can't find it on YouTube.
I knew that quote from Beyond Belief would eventually crop up in this sort of video!

It's their lack of professional discourse that makes them come off as angry amateurs. The slobbery is just icing on the cake. Look, guys, I am not some 60 year old Ivy League elitist here. I am 28, listen to indie rock, dance to hip hop at the local clubs, and can on occasion swear "like a trucker." Sure, I'd go grab a beer with Brian. I'd dance in a cage with Kelly. But discuss religion in a serious way and organize with them? Hell no. If these guys are the "face" of the young atheist movement, then may god help us.

At the risk of being called a bastard and a wanker, I'm with steve99 on this one.
The fact that the RRS are doing something is good, but I think it would be better if someone else was the public face of the organisation.

I didn't think much of the RRS representatives in the nightline debate with Kermit Cameron and Ray Comfort Dummy.
I can appreciate why more notable atheist proponents might not want to bother debating those clowns, but the RRS representatives made a hash of it.

I'm not a big fan of the way these authors are referred to as fleas. Illogical? Yes. Wrong? Most probably. But fleas? I don't think so.

Just my two pennies worth...
I feel that the 'Child Abuse' argument is Richard Dawkins' weakest by some stretch. Not only do I cringe when I hear the words 'Christian Child' or 'Muslim Child', but also when I hear Dawkins even mention this quarrel, especially during an interview of no longer than five minutes (When they are so many more devastating arguments to be voiced).
I think it is a simplistic reduction of a more complex issue and about as worthwhile as debating whether the most deaths throughout human history were caused by religion or science.
Therefore, I sympathise with David Robertson's position slightly (although stop short of full support) as partly he seemed just to be pointing out that this is a weak argument against religion as a whole (compared to the rest anyway). This is not to say I usually agree with Robertson, in fact this is a first. I nearly lost my head through vigorous shaking as I turned every page of his book.
The way debates between Robertson and others on this site often descend into slagging matches is a little disappointing and not good for the public image of this site. OK so I admit I chuckled at some of the comments, but I would like to see more (intelligent) religious people on these boards who are prepared to at least attempt rational debate. Who knows, some may even recognize the irrationality of their position and convert!
17. Hitchens and Prager Debate
Comment #46052 by LB on May 30, 2007 at 4:46 am
I think its the kind of ridiculous question people like Prager spend hours dreaming up in order to fool an audience in to thinking they are not being well and truly thrashed in a debate.

20. Christopher Hitchens to God: Drop Dead
Comment #43256 by LB on May 21, 2007 at 2:55 am
By Jove! The moderate religious have been busy. They've clearly come up with a devastating new argument, which will surely silence Dawkins, Harris, and even Hitchens.
What argument is that you say? How could you miss it?! Everything else was trite and commonplace, but this one argument is undoubtedly a crushing blow to the atheists:
"Religion offers… distinctive recipes… among many other positive things"

Comment #28527 by LB on March 29, 2007 at 3:20 pm
I am astonished that anybody with more than half a brain cell considers Alister McGrath worth listening to.
The fact that this man, with his tired and irrelevant arguments, is given a chance to 'debate' with some of the greatest minds in science, is an absolute insult to human intelligence.
Richard Dawkins, you should have laughed in his face.
The sad fact is that, although you are thoroughly entitled to do so, Alister McGoebbels would have turned it against you in order to 'win' the argument.
He does nothing but appeal to the emotions of the audience. The very same emotions that cause similarly weak minded people to suck their massive comfort dummies and teach their children to do the same.
The Emperor's clothes analogy was a briliant rebuttal of the 'You don't know enough about religion to comment on it' argument.

I'm as bald as a coot after watching that. Greer pokes fun at the noah story as if everyone in the world knows it's ridiculous and is laughing with her.
I half expected her to say she is a different type of atheist about the flying spaghetti monster - "I can't be absolutely sure it doesn't exist".
What this show needed was a host with even a hint of an unbiased stance, half a brain cell, and the ability to read.

When the pointless pedant raised his objection to Dawkins' speculation about intelligent alien life forms, he asked "Where's your EVIDENCE for THAT?"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there quite strong evidence to support this speculation?
1. Evidence that other planets exist - Check
2. Evidence that, given the right conditions, it is possible for life to exist on a planet – Check
3. Evidence that there are sufficient quantities of potential planets to provide a statistical probability that our existence on planet earth is not unique in the universe – Check
I admit I'm a bit sketchy on the statistical probability based on number of stars Vs probability that life friendly conditions will exist on any given planet. Perhaps someone can help?
As for the chap with a mullet – how can you argue with someone who thinks that the comfort providing delusion that God will help a person through hard times is confirmed as evidence when the hard times end. (When the young brunette is speaking about how religion helped her through difficult times, you can hear him shout "You're ignoring her evidence!")
