1. Regime change in heaven

Comment #240300 by scotriani on August 31, 2008 at 9:58 am

You sure this article wasn't written by Jeremy Clarkson?

2. 'Major discovery' from MIT primed to unleash solar revolution

Comment #223692 by scotriani on August 3, 2008 at 7:27 am

MIT should set up a solar farm in Australia with these new fuel cells. With almost 90% of Australia being desert and sunny, it would be the perfect place to supply a lot of the worlds energy.

3. New discovery proves 'selfish gene' exists

Comment #197469 by scotriani on June 22, 2008 at 7:13 am

in Unweaving The Rainbow, Dawkins extends his most misunderstood "Selfish Gene" theory as being a positive one.

4. Christianity 'could die out within a century'

Comment #197467 by scotriani on June 22, 2008 at 7:06 am

Religion is finally running out of steam.

As Philip Adams would say, "Let's not let a little thing like god come between us."

5. Put a Little Science in Your Life

Comment #187414 by scotriani on June 2, 2008 at 5:54 am

If only my high school science teachers were like this. I don't think I know a high school student that has read the likes of Brian Green, let alone Dawkins.

Imagine if they have.

7. Non-religious summer camps develop niche

Comment #184424 by scotriani on May 25, 2008 at 6:28 am

I wish they had something like this in Australia. Especially with the Catholic farce "World Youth Day" happening soon.

8. Vatican: It's OK to believe in aliens

Comment #179822 by scotriani on May 13, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Would God let humans have command over the aliens as he did with all living things on earth?

9. The Neural Buddhists

Comment #179815 by scotriani on May 13, 2008 at 8:03 pm

In the Meme Machine Susan Blackmore puts to rest the idea of the self as only a story or an idea of the self. She quotes buddha as saying "Actions exist and even their consequences, but the person who acts does not." that seems to be compatible with mechanistic explanations made by Dawkins et al.

10. 'My daughter deserved to die for falling in love'

Comment #178836 by scotriani on May 12, 2008 at 6:10 am

I'm all in favour of some sort of atheist outreach program to help people suffering because of religion. We certainly have our work cut out for us.

11. Sexpelled: No Intercourse Allowed

Comment #164359 by scotriani on April 20, 2008 at 5:50 am

It reminds me of that Family Guy movie where the stork flies into a woman's bedroom with a towel tied around it's beak. When the woman asks where the baby is the stork says, "Sweetie, you and me are gonna make the baby." Cue the 70's funk guitar

12. A New Flea

Comment #160517 by scotriani on April 14, 2008 at 7:13 am

I find most atheists know more about the bible than most religious believers. Religious believers think Jesus loved all mankind without knowing that he said he was sent only to the people of Israel.

This was the point Dawkins brought up in TGD mentioning John Hartung's research.

13. Did pre-big bang universe leave its mark on the sky?

Comment #159261 by scotriani on April 11, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Lee Smolin was one physicist who applied evolutionary science to the universe.

14. Saudi Arabia Leader Calls for Interfaith Dialogue

Comment #152104 by scotriani on March 30, 2008 at 6:10 am

It is the concept of god that has produced the most cause for divisivness, intolerance and hatred.

Who was it who said that if one doesn't hate their parents and brothers and sisters cannot be his desciple? And he calls for strengthening family values through religion.

15. Happy Birthday, Richard Dawkins!

Comment #151463 by scotriani on March 28, 2008 at 7:01 pm

Happy Birthday Richard. I still hope you can come to Townsville, Australia and do a few lectures.

16. New Atheists Are Not Great

Comment #148466 by scotriani on March 23, 2008 at 6:33 am

I have said it before, we need logic and reason now more than ever.

17. The ethics of mixing science and religion

Comment #144477 by scotriani on March 16, 2008 at 7:08 am

Richard Dawkins wrote in TGD that the Templeton Foundation's money corrupts science.

Paul Davies who won the prize in 1995 said that God is the laws of physics. If it were that easy I guess we'd all win the Templeton prize.

18. Oklahoma: One Step from Doom

Comment #141155 by scotriani on March 10, 2008 at 6:07 am

I sense material for a new Penn and Teller "Bullshit" episode with this article.

19. Machines 'to match man by 2029'

Comment #128521 by scotriani on February 17, 2008 at 9:36 am

I wonder if by 2029 that robots will be able to reproduce as well.

20. Good people doing evil things

Comment #125238 by scotriani on February 11, 2008 at 5:32 am

It's good to see that more people are taking what Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and others are trying to do seriously. We need logic and reason now more than ever.
