If USA kills and destroy certain people, that certain people will eventually kill and destroy American people. That's all. 9/11 was awful, but just a tiny fraction of what USA has done to the rest of the planet for decades.

Islam is what speeds up the process.

Even if the chances are incredibly remote.

Even if some civilization could find us and destroy us.

Even if there are no results for years.

The opportunity to know there are other intelligent beings out there is so important, so dramatic, that it has to be tried.
