1. 'Uncontacted tribe' sighted in Amazon

Comment #186603 by TheSwede on May 30, 2008 at 8:08 pm

I just love the "racism" that so many so gladly desplay when it comes to this tribe.

"They should be left alone", "we shouldn't interfere in their habitat", "the nature and life of these tribes must be preserved"!

What are they? A new species? They're people and have the same rights as any other, born in the jungle or born in the city capital.

The "west's" modern anti-imperialism has turned into neo-racism.

Personally, I find it revolting.

Seriously, I see nothing wrong here.

She lied to him about something that he thought of as very important. Why the courts need to annule the marriage is beyond me, but him getting a normal devorce, that would be the normal way to go.

We shouldn't get all worked up for nothin. And this, this is nothing.

Nice... well done RD, and, as said above, smooth.

To bad though, that there's no video.

Making a video should be a demand from RD's side in my oppinion. This given that one can add, on top of the numbers in the audience watching live, another 30,000 viewers on youtube.

"scientists have been quietly and patiently working in the laboratory to test the predictions of intelligent design".

They've been sitting for over three years now doing nothing but staring into an empty container... waiting... waiting...

*POOF* and something appears out of thin air! A brand new animal created by an intelligent agency, with its distinctive features already intact " its a fish with fins and scales, but looks like a bird with feathers, beaks, and wings, etc!

It has been proven scientifically! Hallelujah!!

All thanks to you, RD!

Well, everyone has the right to present their opinion, but does this guy have [far] lower than average intelligence? This person has clearly not evolved… his got the brain functions of an Amoebozoa!

Check this out, for example:
"Another states electric sparks from a lightning storm created organic matter (out of nothing)."
Out of nothing? Maybe the thing the lighting struck constituted "the something". He should know that lightning has a tendency to strike things.

That things are created "out of nothing"… well, that's the main argument of the creationist side now isn't it (ergo creationist!)?

I respect critique. But if one doesn't think before criticizing then it is not critique â€" it is noise. Very disturbing noise…

8. Evolution fray attracts top scientist

Comment #162170 by TheSwede on April 16, 2008 at 9:11 am

I love it when scientist use the prestige gained by winning Alfred Nobel's prize to further science understanding and engage anti-science movements.

This should be done more often. So, I take my hat of for Prof. Kroto!

9. Commentary: Democrats finally getting religion on religion

Comment #157851 by TheSwede on April 9, 2008 at 3:55 pm

Homosexuality and issue? Wait, let me check that one more time... dear none existing God! How can homosexuality be a political issue? I just can't get my head around it.

To me it would be like a political party making statements like "we are strongly against the growing of fingernails!" or "blond people should not be allowed to live with brunettes!" or any ridicules statement of similar sort.

Homosexuality is scientifically proven a common place in nature. Furthermore; it has also been proven that homosexuality isn't just a choice (to act upon it is a choice, as is heterosexuality) but a result of a biological predisposition.

How hard can this be for an evolved monkey to understand?!

Well, "Satan" meaning advarsary or opponent (I believe) would make RD the Devil, wouldn't it?

11. The Atheist Next Door

Comment #156892 by TheSwede on April 8, 2008 at 11:19 am

I love (read: hate) the terminology by the reporter:
-"They do not believe in God"

Why doesn't he say "They do not believe in a god" or "they don't believe in any gods" or "they do not believe in any supernatural being or force"?

Saying what he does implies that they deviate from a standard. Culturally I can accept this, given that americans generally are christian - but to the idea of atheism this is irrelevant.

True that some money goes to building churches (though I can't see that any church at all is being built, since we already have more churches/capita then most countries: And most goes to restoration and not building).

But that's not a point about my comment, now is it?

Language like that would still get you fired many times over.

Oh, what about ancient Greece?

Or modern Sweden for that matter... Hopefully we'll last a decade or so more!

17. Vote on freedom of expression marks the end of Universal Human Rights

Comment #152883 by TheSwede on March 31, 2008 at 5:07 pm

For the first time in my life I'm afraid of an international conflict.

Should I have to proclaim to my friends, family, countrymen and fellow citizens of this earth that I no longer adhere to Human Rights? Will those words pass through my lips..?

Should that day come, it would be a sad day indeed.

18. I always aim to misbehave

Comment #151702 by TheSwede on March 29, 2008 at 8:26 am

Why do they lie so big?

I've read quite a few creationist/apologetic books in my days and I must say that there are some arguments that could be presented in a discussion, some things that could be brought up that would not suffer direct ridicule. Most of them can easily be solved but they could still be convincing to an ignorant or religious mind.

So why have the Expelled producers set out to lie so big, I wonder? Why do they claim such obvious falsehoods? Such as could be debunked even by none-scientific everyday journalists at the local newspaper?

Maybe they've read Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf and found the passage about lying big as a useful propaganda tool. Hitler says that you should lie so big that no one would believe that you "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously".

19. New Atheists Are Not Great

Comment #145114 by TheSwede on March 17, 2008 at 9:16 am

"The world even now takes for granted America's uncommon generosity, especially in times of disaster and crisis. These traits spring directly from our faith."

This argument doesn't hold empirically. The most generous nations aren't the Christian ones but the secular ones.

Who is really "turning the other cheek?" one might also ask? Is it our Christian Nation to the west that hasn't had a decade without participating in a war for as long as anyone can remember? Or is it the world's most atheistic nation, Sweden (where only 8% believe in God), that hasn't been in a war for over 200 years?

I see we swedes have been getting good reviews! And, when I see clips like this one I always thank my gods for living in a country with another type of political discourse.

The discourse in Sweden is much like the way Sam Harris wants it to be in the US: if someone even mentions a god in a live debate or in a written article then they immediately pay a price, a high price, in lost credibility. So nothing of that sort is ever mentioned.

We have a party called The Christian Democrats and not even they would ever consider bringing faith into the discourse.

For, what has a god got to do with stable economics, health care and welfare, education and research or even foreign policy? Nothing.

The alcohol policy is, well, somewhat out of date. But, as was mentioned, easy or difficult access to alcohol should not be a major issue.
