1. A flea we missed?

Comment #231596 by EvolvedDNA on August 16, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Clearthinker
I am an athiest and I have no faith, other than in Human Beings being able to rise above superstition and working together. Sadly, at this time the world religions are working for one upmanship and destroying many lives. The hold religion has over people is fear, not love. I would doubt that even if it did exist, God (is he man or woman and how do you really know?) would not use the bizzare groups of beings who proport to speak for him/her. If God was to blog you I would imagine it would be dismissed as hoax..even using his real name. Tell us.. what would convince you it was Him/Her and not a hoax? I can also imagine any being calling himself Mohammed would be beheaded as well by the other clearthinking bunch.
Talking about that.. you claim for effect that athiests have a "leader" in Richard Dawkins so I guess at least "our leader" talks to us.. where's yours.. Is he appearing in any local churches soon or just apearing as a cracker? or on a cheese sandwich?

An earlier thread I mentioned the Aberfan disaster, you commented you were there just after it happened. I hope your mr Christ told you why he allowed kids to suffocate in mud..be happy in your delusion.

What part of the bible is true..pray tell.. sorry about the pun. Religion has been around for so long but nothing has been achieved except division and hate.. look at the religions that are pollutiing the world today..your god is anything but love. Keep praying buddy, it saves you from doing something constructive.

You must work in Calgary or Edmonton..I have many customers in engineering working in the oil patch as well, and many are from overseas. What I also notice is that most have good world view, having worked in other parts of the world before coming to Canada.

6. Dawkins warns of human extinction

Comment #155784 by EvolvedDNA on April 5, 2008 at 7:16 pm

Just as a side note, I live in Edmonton, Alberta and a local talk show will occasionally get a call from Ken, who is Scottish, and will just call randomly to tell the host that Jesus loves him and then gets into a rant about the Devil and all that stuff. He oftens cites he has just gotten back from Scotland.. I wonder if that is our Kenny the Christian as stated here?
I often wonder if when arguing with a fundie if it better to use terms they can relate to rather than science. I have asked them things like .. if God had designed us and he could do anything he wanted why did he make us with all these organs? He could have not required us to eat and saved a hell of a lot of spare parts, and a hell of a lot of suffering from starving to death.

You will be classed as a Christian social deviant by the Muslims and as such you Christians will be the first to go, so i doubt you will ever see
"Queers" get wiped out, as you assert, if the Islamic forces take over.
As a Christian you appear to be very charitable as usual and again offer no proof other than assertans regarding homosexuallity. If homosexuallity has such a destructive force on society waves of Homo Muslims or Christians would have been used years ago to invade each other to attempt to make us believe.
I am sorry that in the world today views like yours still exist

8. Changing my Mind

Comment #106417 by EvolvedDNA on January 2, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Paula..Interesting that you use the word cult for the JWs. I often wonder what the diference is between a cult and a "mainstream" religion. I have to assume that all religions start off as a cult and then "mature" into a religion as it gains more victims. As a religious mind can be manipulated rival "cults" could be seen as a threat to the mainstream and are aggresively spurned by them.

9. What have you changed your mind about? Why?

Comment #105812 by EvolvedDNA on January 1, 2008 at 9:24 pm

Veronique..have'nt seen you post for while..welcome back. On another thread you had given a link to Edge.org thanks for that I will take a look. Living in Canada its great to hear from our Australian posters as I sit here with it -20C outside tonight...oh well.. summer will be here for July anyway!!!

10. What have you changed your mind about? Why?

Comment #105727 by EvolvedDNA on January 1, 2008 at 5:02 pm

Richard Morgan..I dont think religion was ever in my "heart" I was lucky. If religion gets into that part of the mind where "love" resides as it appears to with fundies, then it is much harder to see reason and get rid of it. I lost any god infestation when the mining town of Aberfan got engulfed with mud in 1966 and 166 children died in a school. No one could give any reasons why God could not stop it and that was it. Athiest since.

11. Pope's exorcist squads will wage war on Satan

Comment #104733 by EvolvedDNA on December 29, 2007 at 9:36 am

Hmmm.. toast rack hat and a dead guy on a stick what a picture. If I was in any way religious I would have to look at that picture and wonder. I think the hat has gotten larger to allow for the swelling when the reason was removed from his brain.

12. Borders Tags Atheist Book with 'O Come All Ye Faithless' Cards

Comment #103791 by EvolvedDNA on December 26, 2007 at 9:46 pm

I have just reviewed comments on this story at the Christian Post. If you need a laugh check it out sometime. Some of the commentators lament the fact that the Bible is not in the religion section, lots of books about the Bible, but not the mighty dictation itself. Maybe they should look in the fiction or fairy tale sections? or Wiccan.. yeh that would work nicely.
Brings to mind the Monty Python Cheese shop sketch.. "don't get much call for it around here, sir"

13. Top Ten Stories of 2007

Comment #103657 by EvolvedDNA on December 26, 2007 at 12:32 pm

Great to see them recogize item number 2.. if the atheist books are best sellers then more folks are getting innoculated against the religious virus, which means the religious crowd will have a harder time selling their garbage. I bet that the amount of money made by all three books mentioned would not even come close to the coinage tossed at the televangelists every Sunday. Duff brings it into real perspective.

15. Riding with Rocinante: 'It's me or the crucifix'

Comment #94798 by EvolvedDNA on December 6, 2007 at 3:21 pm

This is certainly a breath of fresh air compared to some of the videos we have seen this week on this site. The crucifix is symbolic of Jesus in one way at least.. hanging about all day and achieving nothing.

17. Highway to hysteria

Comment #94130 by EvolvedDNA on December 4, 2007 at 9:49 pm

You know.. after watching this it baffles me as to why Christians are so concerned about publicly offending Muslims... thereby having the rage of Mo bestowed upon them. If they had their heads lopped off it is something they would not miss and could still function for years.

18. Onward Science Soldiers

Comment #88098 by EvolvedDNA on November 14, 2007 at 4:54 pm

It is interesting to note that Christians use the White House to do their bidding. I would think they would prefer to use the " power of prayer" to get God to intervene in the research projects (stem cell etc) and affect the outcome. Surely god could change the chemistry to make the research useless. It seems to me that these christians don't believe in either the power of prayer, or the power of god.

20. Enough religion. Stop shoving it down my throat

Comment #70447 by EvolvedDNA on September 15, 2007 at 2:16 pm

Nice fish comment Northern Bright.. brilliant.
Not sure if this program was shown or available elsewhere, but CNN yesterday (I live in Canada) where having a "Faith Friday" forum, where 3 faith heads answer "provocative" questions. Naturally the Kathy Griffins comments came up... and the Muslim panelist said that there has to be limits on the things that are said about Jesus, Mohammed and God.. this was an US based Muslim.. he was not challenged on this staement. I wrote to CNN and complained and asked why they dont ask real questions and hold for real explanations.I do not expect to get a reply. It is sad that some of the comments in the article above, and still coming from the media express such misunderstanding of science and humanity. BTW Does CNN stand for the Christian News Network?

21. Griffin's 'offensive' Emmy speech to be censored

Comment #69589 by EvolvedDNA on September 11, 2007 at 7:53 pm

I agree with you as far as what Kathy said, but I think that what is important here is the reaction to it by the religious community. The full frontal attack claiming "hate speach" when something they dont want to hear comes along is unacceptable. We saw the Muslims try the same thing with the "Koran in the Toilet" a few weeks back.

22. Griffin's 'offensive' Emmy speech to be censored

Comment #69587 by EvolvedDNA on September 11, 2007 at 7:32 pm

Hi Bill.. remind me again... who had the inquistion, which suppressed scientific enquiry and free thinking for centuries, and which religion has had problems with leaking sperms from priests? This is an affront to the human race and your complaints are insignificant in comparision.

23. India to charge writer Nasreen with 'hurting Muslim feelings'

Comment #67549 by EvolvedDNA on September 3, 2007 at 7:19 pm

Lets not fret.. thousands of Muslims will be protesting this outrage once they hear of the threats to Taslima as this will give Islam another black eye... yeh right. What is it with Islam and decapitation anyway,,, is the only way they can think of in getting a head in life?

24. The Flea Circus moves to your iPod!

Comment #67540 by EvolvedDNA on September 3, 2007 at 6:42 pm

I had heard a saying somewhere, that obviously came from pilots in the second world war, that stated you "get the most flak when you are over the target".. I think we are hitting the targets quite regularly now. The Ipod idea is really akin to "Bible studies" where a victim is told what interpetations are, so that they cannot form their own opinion.

Rea-SON the only son we need to worship..

25. Christopher Hitchens and Bill Donohue on Mother Teresa

Comment #66368 by EvolvedDNA on August 29, 2007 at 8:22 pm

Is it just me or do I notice a lot of these religious appologists have that insipid smile on their faces, as if they are laughing at anyone who thinks they are wrong? Donahues never left his face the entire discourse. This must be some tactic they use to try to intimidate an opponent, which failed big time in this case.

26. Rapture Ready: The Unauthorized Christians United for Israel Tour

27. Cardinal: homosexuality a form of prostitution

Comment #38998 by EvolvedDNA on May 9, 2007 at 5:50 pm

"If a person's beliefs are godless, then there is little hope to get rid of sexual dependency."

I think the whole human race depends on sex..unless the Catholics still think that virgin births are still happening? And as far as "same sex" marriages,, well I've been married for 30 years!!!
The sooner the Roman Catholics allow their priests the basic human right of procreation the safer the kids will be, and maybe the priest hood can think of something other than sex to chase down.

28. Atheist offers to send letters post-Rapture

Comment #38990 by EvolvedDNA on May 9, 2007 at 5:30 pm

Would appear to me that a lot of Christians have had a major brainwashing, while others have had their brain totally scoured out in the process.

29. Scene Caused by Christian Group at NYC Stage Show

Comment #35899 by EvolvedDNA on April 29, 2007 at 8:31 am

Philos..Is this goup that destroyed this guys property a religious thought police? I would suggest that if this group had actully read the Bible they would know that that book had far more adult content in it, and is unsuitable for children.

30. New Noah's Ark ready to sail

Comment #35773 by EvolvedDNA on April 28, 2007 at 8:12 pm

I often wondered, and asked any religious types who happened by, where all the crap went that all of these animals must have expelled on Noahs Ark. I would think that the ark ran agound on a giant mound of shit. If they want to find the original it is problaly buried in the most fertile place on earth!!

33. The Religion Clause Divided Against Itself

Comment #26480 by EvolvedDNA on March 19, 2007 at 3:47 pm

It appears to me that only when society turns its back on God, will we be facing the right direction to see the problems we have to fix. Until then we will have to put up with the mental gymnastics the other side puts up to remain ignorant.

34. Response to Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris

Comment #25130 by EvolvedDNA on March 10, 2007 at 9:16 am

Did I hear this guy actually say that keeping a woman pregnant for 20 years would obviously harm her? Since when has the particualar religion to the one he subscibes too had any concerns about what women think or feel?

35. Pope speaks out against 'designer babies'

Comment #23176 by EvolvedDNA on February 26, 2007 at 3:56 pm

The Pope and other reilgious leaders appear to have no problem taking a normal, new born child and converting it into a Catholic, Muslim, whatever.. this is tantamount to reprograming the brain to remove reason

36. Radical cleric sparks fury in Australia

Comment #18181 by EvolvedDNA on January 18, 2007 at 10:06 pm

'Late last year, Sheik Taj Aldin al-Hilali, the mufti of Australia since 1989, made international headlines when he likened unveiled women to "uncovered meat," suggesting they invite sexual assault'
The "Mufti" talking about uncovered women.. interesting name.. where the hell did they get that name from?
Interesting also that these guys are willing to allow others to sacrifice themselves while they "instruct". This is scary stuff. How come we allow these guys to talk like this, if you made a threat against an aircraft you get arrested imediately, but to threaten all of humanity is OK?

37. Lil' Markie live, part 2

Why is it that the worst songs and singers are Christians? If you could put a rootcanal to music then this would be the song.

38. Homophobia, not injustice, is what really fires the faiths

Comment #17103 by EvolvedDNA on January 10, 2007 at 9:37 pm

I can imagine that there are many married couples who are living in a "same sex" marriage.. and have been for many years. I often wonder why, when you and your wife are browsing in a store, the clerk comes up and asks "how are you guys making out?".. next time i won't tell!!! Maybe the religious right are compiling info on us.

39. Woman beaten on Jerusalem bus for refusing to move to rear seat

Comment #15075 by EvolvedDNA on December 28, 2006 at 7:18 pm

We hear, in many rebuttles to TGD, that "what would the world be like if it is godless.. well we've had 2000yrs of the god squad running the show, and here is more proof of its success. The more religious and god fearing a nation becomes it appears it is far less happy and productive. I often wonder if we athiests are actually wrong, and, if fact, we have died and we are in hell already! When I read this type of thing you have to wonder.

Hi God, You saw Dr.Who..in Heaven? was it on an HD set before we mortals had it down here.. also did you watch any of those TV evangelists at all.. do you know they say that the world is only 6000 yr old!!! well of course you would right. Try to sort them out.. they appear to be giving your side a bad name. Maybe drop in one Sunday morning and set them straight.

42. Now we know how to make the IDists dance in their petticoats: blaspheme.

Comment #14069 by EvolvedDNA on December 21, 2006 at 3:44 am

Wow, if you read some of the comments posted when you follow the link it is very scary.I can feel all those waves of prayer pressure forcing me to believe, can you? These ID guys likely think that "Flintstones The movie" is actually a documentary, and can point to that as proof that Dinosaurs lived with Humans!
