1. Student's 'Be Happy, Not Gay' t-shirt ok

This is a difficult call. I am a fiendish supporter of freedom of speech, even when that speech is patently insulting. Given that students at public schools are essentially a captive audience, I think that there is a greater need for sensitivity to censoring patently offensive messages. I'm sure we would all agree that there are SOME shirt slogans which would be obviously inappropriate for public schools. Does this qualify? I certainly find it offensive.

The judges said Mr Neuxoll's t-shirt slogan was only "tepidly negative''


Some would consider this less 'tepid' than others.
