The Professor must be itching quite a bit from these flea bites....
2. State Approves Evolution As 'Scientific Theory'
Comment #129639 by thompjs on February 19, 2008 at 11:56 am
Of course they should teach scientific criticism of evolutionary theory. Since there are none of note, that will be a short discussion in the class room.
Excepting of course, the FSM.
Ramen.
3. Way of the Master Radio talks about Dawkins' Christmas Comments

Sorry, I couldn't listen to whole thing.
I see Contemporary Christian Humor is about as bad as Contemporary Christian Music.
4. An Open Letter to Richard Dawkins
Comment #96643 by thompjs on December 10, 2007 at 7:37 pm
I find it interesting that Father Morris puts the Church's atrocities in the past tense.
Yet Catholicism is sponsoring Genocide in Africa with it policies on condoms and Aids.
It still promotes huge families in spite the burden of the billions of people on the planet.
The Church in the US the butt of jokes about pedophile priests.
Also, I think Professor Dawkins would be better served by arguing that that Stalinism and religion are the same thing! Dogmatism.
5. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza
Comment #92915 by thompjs on December 1, 2007 at 6:25 pm
The young man in Part 10 with Gray sock cap, destroyed Dinesh. Dinesh had to take deep breath
and babble about something off topic.
When he asked Dinesh "Where do you draw the line
on absurdities?" was a stunning!

arogop, Take a look at Scientific American from a couple of months ago. They have great article on climate change, modeling of climate change. I think it is great starting point to investigate the subject.
7. Scandal brewing at Oral Roberts U.
Comment #76424 by thompjs on October 5, 2007 at 7:56 pm
I went to Tulsa University and while there worked as a plumber's helper on construction there. Oral had a membership at Southern Hills Country Club. The dues were thousands per month, minimum. Everyone in
town knew he was a money grubbing scam.
As Gomer Pyle would say: "Surprise, Surprise"
BTW, look up the history of Carlton Pierce also from
Tulsa.
8. Christopher Hitchens on BookTV
Comment #68118 by thompjs on September 6, 2007 at 7:24 am
On the Global Warming issue:
Read current (or maybe last month now)
Scientific American article. It has good summary
of how the computer models work and what they
are indicating.
If you can slam that article, then let me know.

Michael Moore is a genius (in the artistic sense).
Whether or not you agree with him.

12. Hitchens vs. Hannity on Religion and God
Comment #41286 by thompjs on May 15, 2007 at 7:28 pm
I loved when Sean leaned back as he realized he was in the same league with the 9/11 hijackers, the pope etc. And Hitchens pounded him on his religious bullying.
Hitchens is lucky he didn't get muted and then
Sean would go on some tirade that he could not
respond to.
13. Study: Religion is Good for Kids
Comment #34870 by thompjs on April 25, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Interesting that it contradicts the saying in the southern US about the behavior of the "Preacher's children"
I'm sure this needs some more study, I'm wondering about other cause and effect issues to children's behavior.
14. Sam's Flea!
Comment #32805 by thompjs on April 18, 2007 at 9:47 am
From his site:
"In the interaction between Doug Wilson and Sam Harris, one of them is wrong and one is right. If you can't figure it out after reading this exchange, you never will."
Hanna Rosin
Washington Post staff writer & contributing editor, The Atlantic Monthly
I'm not sure whose book she is referring to as
the winner!
Comment #23105 by thompjs on February 26, 2007 at 11:24 am
I saw her promoting her book on CSpan Books.
She pounced on several Muslim questioners.
If you can find it somewhere, it is very interesting

17. Interview with Chris Hedges
Comment #22373 by thompjs on February 15, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Lionel A:
Dr. Dawkins has been on Colbert and I think he
quite enjoyed it.
Colbert reportedly spoke with Dr Dawkins before show
and said: "Remember, I play a complete idiot"
His character is Protestant, in real life
he is Catholic (I believe, I don't remember
him specifically giving a denomination, but
he makes a lot of fundie type remarks not
normally heard from Catholics in US)
If you are from outside US, it is pretty subtle
satire sometimes. There are guys on Fox News
that say almost the same things he does.
18. Debate between Sam Harris and Reza Aslan
Comment #22052 by thompjs on February 12, 2007 at 8:12 pm
I thought Reza had some decent commentary on the fact that he may know a bit more about Islamic countries. I would like to see Sam give more
background on his statements regarding Islam.
RickM and evolver23, you comments regarding his
views on religion are spot on. On the other hand,
countries like Iran and Iraq surely have other
influences than religion. Even though Islam
must have a powerful influence.
Money and Power are motivators just like religion.
Religion and/or its lingo are often used to
support other motives.
19. Panel discussion on atheism where no atheists are included

Where did Paula find those idiots?
20. Root of All Evil? Discussion

I loved when the host pinned down the Evangelist on his literal belief in Scripture. I was very surprised to see how hard he pushed.
He really stuttered his responses.
Thanks for having this posted, very interesting

See, Richard Dawkins you are wrong, he is back!
The comments on the money sound just like Jim and Tammy Baker. TV operation takes most of the money the preacher takes another big hunk of whats left.
Then make a few donations to the poor here and there
and play that up on the TV.
A formula that seems to work over and over.

A companion article to this is from
Andrew's Blog
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/201/story_20187_1.html
I didn't realize Andrew was HIV positive, this
gives some of his emotional reasons for his
beliefs.
Not that I think they are valid, but is good background for this debate.
