1. Young, British Muslims 'getting more radical'

Janus writes, "Deportation is another thing entirely, and frankly I wouldn't support it even if it wasn't ethically troubling, simply because it's not practical."
Nonesense, it's entirely practical. All you need is a lot of cattle wagons and a bunch of mindless thugs in uniform to herd the offenders into them. You shunt them off somewhere quiet and turn the showers on.
It's been done before.
Despising religion is one thing. This is another. Yes, grow up!

2. Church of England still valid as state religion?

Unfortunate turn of phrase, fatcitymax.
Somebody already did dump two parasites on British society - the Church and the Monarchy.

3. Send The God Delusion to your MP

Love all the 'Hit them with a book' ideas, but aren't we missing one important point? How do you get the SOB's to actually read the darn things, let alone benefit from them?
You can lead a horse to water ...

4. Deliver us from the god delusion that imperils our humanity

On the 'Capitalist' thread: "Bill Gates = Microsoft = Richest Man in the World.." etc.

I don't have any figures to hand, but in the World's Biggest Greedy Rich Organisation contest would take a fair bet on the Catholic Church. (and they don't have any oil).

5. Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity With New 'Intelligent Falling' Theory

Comment #17996 by Baz Y on January 17, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Gravity is not mentioned in the bible for the same reason that electricity and Brazil are not mentioned in the bible.
The people who wrote it did not actually know enough to successfully pass it off as the Word of the Omnipotent One.
Just as well, really, or we'd all be wearing magnetic boots in case God changed his mind.

Thanks, Damien White for that rationality.

I have been trying to marshal my thoughts around the Heather Mac Donald threads on the 'Right Wing Atheist'. Basically that linking the religious debate to the political debate encourages polarisation along the same lines. "I don't believe in god, but I have to believe in something, therefore I must be a socialist".

Heather MacDonald shows that this does not have to be so, and you remind us that the only thing we 'have' to be is logical.

I agree, let's leave the tub-thumping to the politicians and the bible-bashing to the other lot. We don't need a Group, we are a group.

7. Send a Message to God: He has gone too far this time

'God is Love'.

Wow! two of life's great mysteries explained in one epithet.

Now, about this warm fuzzy thing ...

Thanks to Joadist for the quote 'God's days are not the same length as earthly days'.

For those of us who believe the earth to be about 4.6 billion years old, then a God-day would be about 657 million of our years, and Homo-Sapien's tenure about 5 minutes of God's time.

That's about how long it would take him to doodle a face in his breakfast cup's ring-mark. Might explain why he seems so little interested in his great creation, but I wonder what time Mrs. God will be wiping the table ...
